Offseason cutoff This board is frozen at 2026-07-18, America/New_York. It predates the official 2026-27 schedule, final camp rosters, opening-night rotations, and many unrestricted medical clearances. Every number is a Rome desk projection—not an NBA fact, vendor consensus, ADP, or coach announcement.
How to use the board
- Format: standard nine-category redraft—FG%, FT%, 3PM, PTS, REB, AST, STL, BLK, and fewest TO—as defined by Yahoo's default categories. Custom leagues must translate their own settings.
- Unit: counting tables rank projected production per active game. Parentheses show projected GP so a manager can see availability risk without conflating per-game and totals value. Games played versus per-game value in fantasy basketball explains the distinction.
- Source table: player-projections-2026-07-18.csv, a reproducible 532-row normalization of team and player cards. Later conditional/deep-roster dossier additions can sit outside that frozen export, so it defines the counting-table population; the latest direct-dossier screen supplies the percentage tables. Every displayed player resolves to the linked dossier, whose role, injury, and transaction branches outrank this compact table.
- Counting pool: 248 rows with at least 40 projected GP, 16 MPG, and complete 3PM/PTS/REB/AST/STL/BLK/TO fields. The tables show the first 40. Ties at the cutoff are effectively unordered.
- Percentages: ratio value is attempts multiplied by the gap from a declared reference—not raw rate. The partial impact tables use only supplied attempts; they do not infer attempts from position or percentage.
- Confidence: steals, blocks, rookies, injury returners, and unsettled rotations carry wider uncertainty than their one-decimal display suggests. See 2026-27 fantasy basketball evidence and confidence policy.
Scarcity map
Counts below describe the 248-player comparison pool, not universal NBA thresholds. They show how quickly elite supply thins before positional, replacement, or roster-fit adjustments.
| Category | Elite shelf | Players there | Strong shelf | Players there | Top-40 cutoff | Draft implication |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PTS | 25.0+ | 13 | 23.0+ | 22 | 20.5 | High scoring is concentrated but usually bundled with usage and TO. |
| 3PM | 3.5+ | 4 | 3.0+ | 16 | 2.4 | Threes are deep after the tiny elite shelf; specialists can repair them later. |
| REB | 11.0+ | 7 | 9.0+ | 20 | 7.5 | Elite rebounds remain center-heavy, but several forwards and guards diversify the category. |
| AST | 9.0+ | 5 | 6.0+ | 25 | 5.3 | High-end assists are the sharpest early scarcity; role loss hurts quickly. |
| STL | 1.8+ | 3 | 1.5+ | 12 | 1.2 | One-decimal ties conceal volatility; diversify rather than relying on one outlier rate. |
| BLK | 2.0+ | 3 | 1.5+ | 13 | 1.0 | Blocks are top-heavy, but low-minute centers can supply streamable rates. |
| Low TO | 0.9 or less | 10 | 1.2 or less | 26 | 1.4 | Applies only to the meaningful-role qualifier described below; low TO often means low creation. |

| 14 | Cooper Flagg | 24.8 (72) | 28 | Zion Williamson | 21.7 (60) |
Read: 25 PTS is a genuine elite separator. The GP column matters especially for Embiid, Curry, Irving, Leonard, and other players whose per-game rank can overstate expected season totals.

| 14 | Nickeil Alexander-Walker | 3.0 (74) | 28 | James Harden | 2.6 (64) |
Read: the 3.5-plus shelf is tiny, but 79 qualified players project at least 2.0. Do not pay an early scarcity premium for ordinary threes when later specialists can repair the category.

| 14 | Evan Mobley | 9.5 (68) | 28 | Cameron Boozer | 8.3 (72) |
Read: the late rebound pool is more diverse than the elite shelf. Hartenstein, Nurkić, Diabaté, Sharpe, Drummond, Robinson, and similar role players can repair rebounds without an early pick, though several sacrifice FT%, threes, or role security.

| 14 | Jalen Brunson | 6.8 (70) | 28 | Dyson Daniels | 5.8 (74) |
Read: only five players project at least nine assists, and only twelve reach seven. Assists are expensive to repair after the primary initiators disappear; Ty Jerome, Davion Mitchell, Tre Jones, and Isaiah Collier are the lower-cost role-sensitive routes.

| 14 | Scottie Barnes | 1.4 (74) | 28 | Tyrese Haliburton | 1.3 (66) |
Read: steals are noisy and tightly clustered. Daniels, Ausar Thompson, and Wallace separate from the field, but a portfolio of several 1.2–1.5 contributors is safer than depending on one extreme forecast.

| 14 | Matas Buzelis | 1.4 (75) | 28 | Morez Johnson Jr | 1.1 (70) |
Read: Wembanyama is a category unto himself. Kessler and Sarr form the next shelf; after that, managers should combine multiple 1.0–1.8 sources and respect health or role risk.
Low turnovers
This is not a bench-player leaderboard. The qualifier is at least 50 GP, 24 MPG, and 9 PTS, which keeps the comparison among players with meaningful fantasy opportunity. Ties sort toward more points, then assists.

Read: low TO is often the absence of on-ball responsibility. Mikal Bridges and Tre Jones are especially useful because they pair a low turnover line with nontrivial assists; category specialists such as Wallace, Ware, and Herb Jones add scarce defensive production without heavy mistakes.
Percentage-impact rankings
The impact score is surplus makes per active game relative to a fixed comparison reference:
\[ I_{FG}=FGA(FG\%-.475), \qquad I_{FT}=FTA(FT\%-.780). \]
The references are transparent neutral yardsticks, not claims about the final 2026-27 NBA or fantasy-pool averages. A positive score means projected surplus makes; a negative score means a drag. The relevant roster-level benchmark changes as the roster changes, so these are discovery tables—not permanent player values. See Percentage categories and volume and LineupExperts' makes/attempt explanation.
The latest direct-dossier screen found 63 non-conditional players with at least 40 projected GP, 18 MPG, and explicit FGA and FTA. The rankings below are complete only for that measured subset. Missing stars are unranked, not neutral. The desk deliberately does not infer attempts from percentage alone; this also avoids the percentage proxy used by the older mechanical overall-rank export.

Missing-attempt watchlist Several projected percentage engines—including Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jalen Duren, Zion Williamson, Jarrett Allen, Rudy Gobert, Stephen Curry, Evan Mobley, and Lauri Markkanen—still lack complete attempt fields in their eligible base dossier line. Their raw rates and scoring volume suggest material ratio leverage, but this note refuses to manufacture an exact rank until projected FGA/FTA are supplied.
Specialist map
These are profile shortcuts, not full player ranks. A specialist still contributes—or damages—every other category in his projected line.
| Need | Lower-cost or concentrated sources | What can go wrong |
|---|---|---|
| 3PM | Reed Sheppard, Isaiah Joe, Klay Thompson, Collin Gillespie, Max Strus, Tim Hardaway Jr. | FG drag, low stocks, or unstable minutes can erase the apparent bargain. |
| REB | Isaiah Hartenstein, Jusuf Nurkic, Moussa Diabaté, Day'Ron Sharpe, Andre Drummond, Mitchell Robinson | Center congestion, FT drag, and limited scoring/threes narrow lineup fit. |
| AST | Ty Jerome, Davion Mitchell, Tre Jones, Isaiah Collier, Ryan Rollins | Assists are role-dependent; losing lead-guard minutes can collapse the category line. |
| STL | Cason Wallace, Kris Dunn, Keon Ellis, Scotty Pippen Jr., Alex Caruso | Steal rates are volatile; several options contribute little scoring or are rotation-sensitive. |
| BLK | Ryan Kalkbrenner, Isaiah Stewart, Yves Missi, Adem Bona, Morez Johnson Jr, Isaiah Jackson | Low-minute centers can be unplayable when the blocks do not arrive; several carry FT or role costs. |
| FG% | Daniel Gafford, Walker Kessler, Mark Williams, Zach Edey, with Ryan Kalkbrenner as a high-rate but attempt-incomplete streamer | Raw percentage without attempts overstates low-volume help; FT and spacing categories often move the other way. |
| FT% | Devin Booker, Austin Reaves, Jamal Murray, Kyrie Irving, Tyler Herro; Cam Spencer supplies a great rate on little volume | Low-volume elegance cannot offset a high-volume drag; availability and attempt volume control leverage. |
| Low TO | Mikal Bridges, Tre Jones, Cason Wallace, Kel'el Ware, Keegan Murray, Herb Jones | Low creation can produce low TO and also cap PTS/AST; do not treat inactivity as category dominance. |
Punt-build gainers and losers
“Gainer” means the player's relative value rises after a category receives little weight. “Loser” means part of his normal premium is being discarded—not that he becomes unusable. These are desk inferences from the primitive lines; Robust punt builds in fantasy basketball requires roster-level thresholds, replacement supply, and stress tests before any hard punt.
Draft workflow
- Start with the primitive line, not the overall rank.
- After each pick, sum counting categories and percentage makes/attempts; never average player percentages.
- Compare the roster with attainable category thresholds and replacement supply, not with abstract league averages alone.
- Treat a weak category as repairable until the market cost proves otherwise; soft punts preserve more options than early hard punts.
- Stress-test the roster without each scarce-category anchor and with lower GP/minutes scenarios.
- Re-run this board after schedule release, camp roles, and full attempt projections. July category leaders are a baseline, not draft-day truth.

Open questions
- When will every projected rotation player have FGA and FTA so FG/FT impact can be ranked league-wide without a proxy?
- Which category thresholds emerge from actual 2026-27 draftable-player populations in 10-, 12-, and 14-team leagues?
- How much do totals rankings change after the official schedule and updated GP distributions are available?
- Which steal, block, rookie, and injury-return projections are most sensitive to preseason role evidence?
- Can roster-level simulation turn these static leader pools into head-to-head majority probabilities and roto standings-point gains?
