Market and fantasy fit
- Dan Titus ranked him seventh in an April first-round board after he finished 18th per game in nine-category and seventh in Yahoo High Score. Dynatyze had him ninth. Yahoo's
public_prerankvalue is excluded here under the team dossier's stated source policy. NBA/Yahoo · Dynatyze - 9-cat: target picks 8-15. Elite forward assists and rebounds; positive points/FG%; turnovers and merely neutral FT/blocks prevent a perfect profile.
- Points: target picks 5-12. Triple-double volume makes him more valuable when turnovers and percentages carry less weight.
- Dynasty: top 8-12 overall at age 24. The usage and playmaking role are structural, not a short-term injury replacement.
- Best builds: pair with a shot-blocking center and low-turnover guards.
Range and health
- Floor: roughly 20/9/7 across fewer than 60 games if the multi-season injury history returns or McCollum handles more half-court creation.
- Ceiling: 24/11/9 with 1.5-plus stocks and top-five overall value if he plays 70-plus games.
- Health: 2024-25 ended with left-shoulder labrum surgery. He answered with 72 games in 2025-26, but brief hip, knee, calf, quad, and illness absences remain a totals warning. NBA Johnson profile · NBA hip report

Career record
Pre-NBA: Duke, one partial season (2020-21). He played 13 games at 21.4 minutes for 11.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks on .523/.444/.632, then announced on February 15, 2021 that he was leaving the team early to prepare for the draft — a decision that cost him significant stock. Before that he was a five-star recruit rated 13th nationally in the 2020 class, transferring from Sun Prairie to Nicolet in Wisconsin, where he led Nicolet to a Division 2 state title and was Wisconsin's AP Player of the Year while averaging 24.6 points, 10.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists as a senior. The 13-game college sample is too small to be predictive of anything, which is part of why the league misread him. Draft: 2021, first round, 20th overall, Atlanta Hawks; selected directly by Atlanta with no draft-night trade.

Fantasy history: 2021-22 and 2022-23 were unrosterable in standard formats — 5.5 and 14.9 minutes produce nothing. 2023-24 was his first startable season and rated as a mid-round asset on the strength of rebounds, a .511 field goal percentage and a genuine 1.2 steals plus 0.8 blocks, with the .728 free throw mark the only real drag. 2024-25 was, per game, his best category season despite ending at 36 games: 1.6 steals and 1.0 blocks alongside 10.0 rebounds and .500 shooting is a five-category forward with no hole other than free throws, though the 36-game total made him a losing pick in roto. For 2025-26 the dossier above cites a per-game finish of 18th in nine-category and seventh in Yahoo High Score; that figure comes from the NBA/Yahoo April first-round board and is the only season-end rank verifiable here, so earlier seasons are left unranked rather than estimated. The gap between 18th in categories and seventh in points is the profile in one line — the assist and rebound volume that makes him a points-league monster comes bundled with 3.4 turnovers and collapsed blocks, which categories charge him for and points formats largely do not.
Durability: 22, 70, 56, 36, 72. The 2021-22 and 2022-23 low games were rotation decisions, not health. Real availability risk starts in 2023-24, when he missed 14 games with a wrist injury in December 2023 and then 13 of Atlanta's final 21 with an ankle sprain. In 2024-25 he dislocated his left shoulder blocking a Scottie Barnes layup on January 23, 2025, was diagnosed with a torn labrum, and had season-ending surgery the following week at 36 games. The 2025-26 answer was emphatic: 72 games, his career high, with only brief hip, knee, calf, quad and illness absences. That is one clean season against two damaged ones, and the shoulder repair is now eighteen months out, which is the reasonable case for treating 68-72 as the base rather than the ceiling.
Trajectory: This is a minutes leap followed by a genuine skill leap, and the two are separable. The 2022-23 to 2023-24 jump from 14.9 to 33.7 minutes explains almost all of the scoring and rebounding increase that year — per-minute, he was already this player. What happened after is not a minutes story: minutes have been flat at 33.7, 35.7 and 35.2 for three seasons while assists went 3.6, 5.0, 7.9 and points went 16.0, 18.9, 22.5. Atlanta handed him the offense, first alongside Trae Young and then, after the Young trade, outright, and he converted the creation reps into real playmaking rather than just more shots. The cost is visible in the same table: turnovers tripled from 1.8 to 3.4 and field goal percentage slid from .511 to .489 as his shot diet moved away from cuts and lobs toward pull-ups and pick-and-roll. The one worrying line is blocks falling from 1.0 to 0.4 in a season where his minutes did not change, which likely reflects the shift to more perimeter defensive assignments and a heavier offensive load rather than lost athleticism, but it removes his scarcest category. At 24 entering 2026-27 he sits before the aging curve entirely; free throw percentage climbing from .628 to .788 across four seasons suggests the shooting touch is still developing, and the realistic upside case is that the turnover rate normalizes as the offense settles rather than that the volume grows further.

- Can he keep eight assists with McCollum settled and Flemings entering the rotation?
- Do the steals and blocks climb enough to unlock a top-five category season?
