Information cutoff: 2026-07-18, America/New_York. Facts below are reported; every stat line, minute allocation, rank interpretation, and season outcome labelled Encyclopedia projection is a forecast.
Executive fantasy read
- Nikola Jokić is a defensible pick at either No. 1 or No. 2 in every redraft format. ESPN's live preseason data had him first in its standard/points ordering and second in roto on July 18; ESPN's April points article and Dan Titus' NBA-hosted early nine-category/High Score list both ranked him first, while Athlon placed him second behind Victor Wembanyama.4 11 12 13
- Jamal Murray is the only other Denver player with a stable standard-league case: ESPN showed him No. 32 standard and No. 25 roto. His 2025-26 leap was real—25.4 points, 7.1 assists, 3.3 threes and 88.7% FT—but the projection regresses a career season slightly.14
- Christian Braun is the format trap: ESPN's early snapshot ranked him 65th in standard scoring but 189th in roto. Minutes and efficient real basketball do not automatically create scarce-category fantasy value.
- Peyton Watson is the best upside bet behind the two stars, and this build now treats his return as the base case rather than a branch. He averaged 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 1.5 threes in 29.6 minutes in 2025-26; he remained an unsigned restricted free agent at the cutoff and finished the season with a hamstring strain, but Denver's reported posture is that it expects to keep him.14 15 16 2
- The current signed bench is a deep-league watch list, not a standard-league draft target. Trevon Brazile and Bryce Hopkins produced useful July Summer League lines, but Summer League changes the tail of a role forecast, not its NBA baseline.17
Roster status and depth chart
Denver had 12 players on standard contracts after adding Brazile and Alpha Diallo. The July 13 beat report explicitly excluded Watson, Spencer Jones, Hopkins and unrestricted free agent Bruce Brown from that count.1
| Position | Signed depth | Unresolved or contingent |
|---|---|---|
| PG | Jamal Murray · Tyus Jones | KJ Simpson (two-way) |
| SG | Christian Braun · Julian Strawther | Spencer Jones (RFA; wing rather than a true guard) |
| SF | Cameron Johnson · Alpha Diallo | Peyton Watson (RFA) · Bryce Hopkins (draft rights) |
| PF | Aaron Gordon · Trevon Brazile · Zeke Nnaji | Watson/Jones can absorb forward minutes if retained |
| C | Nikola Jokić · Marvin Bagley III · DaRon Holmes II | A two-way center was still a stated roster need on July 13 |
Transaction ledger
- Reported fact: the NBA's official transaction dataset records Brazile signing July 10, Diallo July 13, Tyus Jones re-signing July 14 and Bagley signing July 15. The NBA deal tracker lists one-year terms for Jones and Bagley and Hardaway leaving for Miami.18 19
- Reported fact: Denver waived Jonas Valančiūnas on July 8, leaving Bagley as the beat writer's favorite to back up Jokić.18 1
- Reported fact: the NBA's official option/qualifying-offer ledger listed Watson and Spencer Jones as restricted free agents and Jalen Pickett as an unrestricted free agent after Denver declined his option without a qualifying offer.15
- Reported fact: Denver traded pick No. 26 for Brazile at No. 35 and two future second-rounders, while Hopkins was selected No. 49.20
- Reported fact: Alpha Diallo signed a guaranteed one-year contract after winning 2025-26 EuroLeague Best Defender; the official EuroLeague release supports the award, not an assumption that he will make Denver's rotation.21
240-minute rotation
Encyclopedia projection — Watson-retained representative competitive game (primary, roughly 70% weight). Regulation minutes sum to exactly 240; overtime is excluded.
| Player | Role | Minutes | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nikola Jokić | starting C | 35 | The offense remains entirely organized around him, but a recent knee absence argues against another 36.7-MPG bet. |
| Jamal Murray | starting PG | 35 | First-All-Star/All-NBA-level 2025-26 season and no other high-usage guard. |
| Aaron Gordon | starting PF | 30 | Core role, deliberately managed below peak workload after 36 games in 2025-26. |
| Christian Braun | starting SG | 30 | Contract and defensive assignment floor; usage remains modest, and Watson takes back wing minutes. |
| Cameron Johnson | starting SF | 29 | Shooting keeps him attached to Jokić lineups despite trade uncertainty. |
| Peyton Watson | sixth man, wing/F | 26 | Denver's stated intent is to retain him; 29.6 MPG in 2025-26 with a hamstring-shortened finish. |
| Tyus Jones | reserve PG | 17 | Only signed reserve organizer; 2025-26 role was just 14.6 MPG. |
| Marvin Bagley III | reserve C/PF | 14 | Clear first crack at non-Jokić center minutes. |
| Julian Strawther | reserve wing | 12 | Hardaway's departure creates shots, but Watson's return restores the defender ahead of him. |
| Trevon Brazile | reserve F/C | 7 | Athletic frontcourt need plus strong July flashes; still a second-round rookie behind three signed bigs. |
| Zeke Nnaji | reserve F/C | 5 | Contracted depth with a low prior rotation share. |
| DaRon Holmes II | out of competitive-game rotation | 0 | Developmental path; played only 8.4 MPG in 25 games last season. |
| Alpha Diallo | out of competitive-game rotation | 0 | Defensive specialist and emergency wing until NBA shooting/role translates. |
| Total | 240 |
Correction 2026-07-18: the primary 240-minute table was previously the signed-only allocation (Braun 32, Johnson 31, Strawther 15, Brazile 12, Diallo 5, Holmes 5, Nnaji 8, Tyus 18), which treated Watson's departure as the default. Hoops Rumors reported on July 17 that Denver "values Watson significantly," believes it is "positioned well to retain him," and is comfortable letting the restricted process run, and that the three interested teams (Milwaukee, the Clippers and Atlanta) are all over the cap so only a sign-and-trade is available — which makes retention the modal outcome, not the tail.2 The Watson-retained allocation is therefore promoted to primary and signed-only demoted to a contingency below. Watson's 26 minutes were taken 2 from Braun, 2 from Johnson, 3 from Strawther, 5 from Brazile, 3 from Nnaji, 1 from Tyus Jones, and 5 each from Holmes and Diallo, who fall out of a competitive-game rotation entirely rather than holding token minutes. This changes a projection, not a reported fact; the prior allocation is preserved below.
Contingency — Watson departs (signed-only)
Encyclopedia projection — signed-only representative competitive game (roughly 30% weight). This excludes unsigned RFAs Watson and Spencer Jones and unsigned draft-rights player Hopkins. Regulation minutes sum to exactly 240.
| Player | Role | Minutes |
|---|---|---|
| Nikola Jokić | starting C | 35 |
| Jamal Murray | starting PG | 35 |
| Christian Braun | starting SG | 32 |
| Cameron Johnson | starting SF | 31 |
| Aaron Gordon | starting PF | 30 |
| Tyus Jones | reserve PG | 18 |
| Julian Strawther | reserve wing | 15 |
| Marvin Bagley III | reserve C/PF | 14 |
| Trevon Brazile | reserve F/C | 12 |
| Zeke Nnaji | reserve F/C | 8 |
| DaRon Holmes II | reserve F/C | 5 |
| Alpha Diallo | reserve wing | 5 |
| Total | 240 |
Other RFA branches
- Spencer Jones returns without Watson: project 18 MPG off the signed-only contingency, primarily removed from Strawther, Diallo, Brazile and Braun. Jones remains a low-usage deep-league player.
- Both return: project Watson 25 and Spencer Jones 12; Denver then faces a roster/cost move, so a static “everyone stays” minute table is not a coherent final-state forecast.
Market update: NBC Sports reported on July 17 that Milwaukee had joined the Clippers and Hawks among potential Watson sign-and-trade suitors. Interest is not a transaction, but it makes a Denver-only projection especially fragile.3
9-cat per-game projections
Encyclopedia projection. GP is season availability; MPG reflects the primary Watson-retained rotation above. Holmes and Diallo carry small non-zero season MPG because blowout and injury-replacement minutes still accrue even when they are outside a competitive-game rotation. FG and FT include attempts because percentage impact depends on volume. Rank bands are 12-team, nine-category per-game estimates, not totals ranks.

Correction 2026-07-18: Braun, Cameron Johnson, Tyus Jones, Strawther, Brazile, Nnaji, Holmes and Diallo were repriced down, and Watson was promoted out of the conditional table, because the primary minute model now assumes Watson is retained (see the correction above the contingency table). Rates were held constant and counting stats rescaled with minutes. Under the signed-only contingency these eight recover their prior lines, which remain in the contingency minute table above.

Current market snapshot
The ESPN preseason data were dynamic and still marked unpublished in the underlying feed. They are useful as market orientation, not a stable editorial ranking.4
Three editorial/social cross-checks expose the uncertainty behind the numbers. Alex Barutha's July 14 “10-second gut-check” Top 100 also opened with Jokić at No. 1, but was explicitly a rough draft.5 RotoWire's current Murray outlook recommended the fourth or fifth round—more conservative than ESPN's 25/32 ranks and this encyclopedia's 22-34 nine-category band.6 Dynatyze's live July 18 default board placed Jokić fourth and Murray 34th; because that board intermixes future draft picks with players, it is best read as a dynasty/trade-value signal rather than clean redraft ADP.7
| Player | ESPN standard rank | ESPN roto rank | July interpretation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jokić | 1 | 2 | Elite in either transformation. |
| Murray | 32 | 25 | Strongest Denver value after Jokić; category-friendly scoring/FT/3PM/AST. |
| Braun | 65 | 189 | Points systems pay for minutes and counting volume more than 9-cat does. |
| Gordon | 99 | 132 | Late-round per-game value; totals risk is much worse. |
| Tyus Jones | 128 | 303 | Points-rank optimism is fragile without a larger role. |
| Cameron Johnson | 133 | 163 | Threes specialist whose low usage limits ceiling. |
| Watson | 239 | 136 | Roto properly recognizes blocks; roster status depresses both. |
| Bagley | 325 | 200 | FG/rebound streamer only when minutes rise. |
| Strawther | 306 | 365 | Deep-league 3PM watch. |
Dynasty market cross-check
Hashtag Basketball's analyst five-year dynasty board was updated July 2, before Denver's RFA questions resolved. It supports the broad hierarchy but is a market opinion, not a role projection.8
| Player | Hashtag dynasty rank | Encyclopedia read |
|---|---|---|
| Jokić | 4 | Elite production, age discount only. |
| Murray | 33 | Prime-age top-40 asset. |
| Watson | 112 | Contract and role keep the upside outside the top 100. |
| Braun | 126 | Stable NBA role without scarce fantasy categories. |
| Cameron Johnson | 148 | Veteran shooter with little long-term star path. |
| Gordon | 167 | Health and age dominate the dynasty discount. |
| Brazile | 269 | Best Denver rookie stash, still a second-round long shot. |
| Strawther | 317 | Shooting-only development case. |
| Holmes | 332 | Post-Achilles role and rate evidence remain thin. |
Category, points, and dynasty map
| Player group | Categories | Points leagues | Dynasty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jokić | Elite FG impact, assists, rebounds, points, steals and useful FT/3PM; only TO and merely good blocks fail to dominate. | Overall No. 1 candidate. | Still top-five production value, but age-32 horizon makes Wembanyama/younger stars more liquid. |
| Murray | PTS/3PM/AST/FT anchor with neutral FG and low defensive stats. | Secure early-round scorer. | Prime-age top-40 asset; Jokić's future and Murray's health shape the long tail. |
| Gordon/Braun/Johnson | Build-specific late-round pieces: Gordon FG/rebounds, Braun FG/low TO, Johnson 3PM/FT. | Minutes make Braun and Gordon more useful than their 9-cat lines. | Stable NBA roles but limited fantasy-star pathways. |
| Watson | Blocks plus usable scoring/threes is the rare combination; FT is a drag. | Needs 26+ MPG and a settled team. | Denver's best upside asset outside the stars, but contract destination is decisive. |
| Bench/rookies | Mostly streamers or 16-team plays. Bagley supplies FG/rebounds; Tyus supplies AST/low TO; Brazile supplies contingent stocks/threes. | Injury paths matter more than current roles. | Brazile is the preferred deep stash; Hopkins is a watch-list stash pending contract form. |
Injury and transaction uncertainty
- Jokić: missed nearly a month with a hyperextended knee and played exactly 65 regular-season games; his rate confidence is elite but availability should no longer be modeled as automatic 70-plus.16
- Gordon: played 36 games, missed 39 of Denver's first 62 with a right hamstring injury, then missed most of the first-round series with calf trouble. This is the team's largest recurring availability risk.22 16
- Watson: a right hamstring strain kept him out of the full playoff series. A lucrative RFA outcome or sign-and-trade can change both team and role.16 15
- Braun/Cam Johnson: both missed meaningful time in an injury season in which Denver players lost 245 combined games counting the playoffs.16
- Jokić contract: he publicly said he wants to remain in Denver but plans to wait until next summer for a larger potential extension. That is not an immediate redraft role threat, but it increases 2027 dynasty/team-direction uncertainty.23
- Schedule: the full 2026-27 schedule was not available at the cutoff, so no playoff-week or back-to-back edge is claimed.
Team outcome range
The refreshed Andrew RAPM-decomp public projection dated July 18 has Denver at 49.8 mean wins, a 42-57 p10-p90 band, 96.0% playoff probability, and 1.96% title probability. Its roster mirrors the signed-only state and omits Watson and Spencer Jones, so it is not an unconditional final-roster forecast. This supersedes the stale 45.3-win July 9 briefing preserved elsewhere in the vault.9
| Scenario | Encyclopedia projection | Fantasy mechanism |
|---|---|---|
| Floor | 40-43 wins | Gordon/Jokić availability repeats, both RFAs leave, reserve creation and defense fail; Murray and Jokić carry extreme volume but totals suffer. |
| Base | 48-51 wins | Jokić/Murray play mid-60s games, Watson is retained on the modal path, the top five remains intact, and one reserve stabilizes the non-Jokić minutes. |
| Ceiling | 55-58 wins | Better health, Watson retained and healthy through a full season, Brazile/Diallo defend enough to earn minutes, and the starting offense recreates the 54-win 2025-26 floor. |
Bet365 listed Denver at +2200 for the 2027 title on July 10, behind San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Boston and New York. That market number is a sentiment cross-check, not a win projection.10
Watch list
- Watson and Spencer Jones RFA resolution.
- Any Cam Johnson, Braun or Gordon salary-clearing trade.
- Whether Hopkins receives a standard or two-way contract and who takes the remaining two-way center slot.
- Training-camp backup-center order: Bagley versus Brazile, Nnaji and Holmes.
- Whether Braun's ankle/role restores his rim pressure after a down 2025-26.
- Whether Brazile's six-three Summer League outburst translates into a stable NBA shooting role.
