Team: Denver Nuggets · Position: SF/PF · Age during season: 30-31
Reported baseline
Johnson played 54 games and averaged 12.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 threes on 48.0% FG and 83.9% FT in 30.5 minutes.1 ESPN's July snapshot ranked him 133rd standard and 163rd roto.2 Denver's July 13 roster report called Johnson and Christian Braun its likeliest salary-shedding trade candidates.3

Correction 2026-07-18: minutes cut from 31 to 29 and counting stats rescaled (rates held constant), because the team desk's primary minute model now assumes Peyton Watson is retained. Hoops Rumors reported July 17 that Denver values Watson "significantly" and believes it is positioned well to keep him, with the interested teams all over the cap, so retention is the modal outcome rather than a branch. The prior 31-minute line survives as the Watson-departs contingency. https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2026/07/nuggets-rumors-watson-joerger-roddy-diallo.html
9-cat per-game band: 150-190. Points: fringe 12-team player. Dynasty: veteran role piece with little star-upside premium.
Fantasy profile
- Helps: 3PM, FT%, low turnovers, and non-damaging FG% for a shooter.
- Limits: low shot volume, rebounds, assists and stocks leave little category scarcity.
- Floor: outside top 200 if traded into a smaller role or limited again.
- Ceiling: top 105 if a trade restores 14-16 attempts and 33-plus minutes.
Role and uncertainty
Jokić creates high-quality shots but suppresses the need for Johnson to self-create. Watson retention could also cut wing minutes. Roster confidence medium, minutes medium-high if retained, rate high, availability medium-low.

Career record
Pre-NBA: Five college seasons across two schools. Pittsburgh 2014-15 through 2016-17 — 8 games at 4.5 points before a shoulder injury forced a redshirt, then 4.8 points in 11.7 minutes as a reserve, then a breakout junior year at 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 33.3 minutes on .447/.415/.811. Transferred to North Carolina as a graduate: 12.4 points and 4.7 rebounds on .341 from three in 2017-18, then 16.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 29.9 minutes on .505 FG / .457 3P / .818 FT as a senior, earning first-team All-ACC. The 2018-19 shooting line is the reason he went in the lottery at 23. Draft: 2019, first round, 11th overall, Minnesota — traded on draft night to Phoenix, with Minnesota receiving the sixth pick (Jarrett Culver) and Dario Šarić.

2022-23 split: 17 games in Phoenix (13.9 points in 25.2 minutes) and 25 in Brooklyn after the February 9, 2023 Kevin Durant trade (16.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals in 30.8 minutes). He arrived in Denver on July 8, 2025 in the Michael Porter Jr. trade, which also sent Brooklyn a 2032 first.
Fantasy history: 2024-25 was the career-best fantasy season — just outside the top 50 in per-game nine-category value on Basketball Monster, roughly a sixth-round player in eight-cat, with ESPN placing him 94th overall once the 57-game total was accounted for. Earlier Phoenix seasons were bench-role specialist finishes without a widely published rank, and the 2025-26 season-end nine-category rank is not verifiable from a public source; ESPN's July 2026 forward-looking snapshot has him 133rd standard and 163rd roto, which is a projection rather than a result. The points-league shape is meaningfully worse than the category shape and always has been: 9.4 field-goal attempts and 2.2 free-throw attempts do not accumulate, while the category build is carried by three-point makes, a .849 career free-throw percentage on harmless volume, and turnover numbers under 1.0 in five of seven seasons.
Durability: 57, 60, 66, 42, 58, 57, 54. He has never played 70 games, and only once cleared 66. The knee is the recurring theme: a torn meniscus at North Carolina in November 2017, right knee meniscus surgery on November 8, 2022 that cost him roughly two months of the 42-game season, and a right knee hyperextension suffered in the fourth quarter at Dallas on December 23, 2025. The MRI on that last one showed a bone bruise with no ligament or structural damage, but Denver still set a four-to-six-week re-evaluation and he missed Christmas Day along with Gordon and Braun. Three separate knee events on the same joint across nine years is the honest reason to hold his games-played projection in the mid-50s rather than assuming the 2025-26 number was bad luck.
Trajectory: Johnson's career is a clean illustration of usage-driven scoring with a stable underlying skill. The shooting has been the constant — .390 or better from three in five of seven seasons, .849 career from the line — while the point totals have tracked opportunity almost perfectly: 8.8 as a rookie reserve, 12.5 as a sixth man on a 64-win Phoenix team, 18.8 as the first option on a stripped-down Brooklyn roster at 28. The 2025-26 move to Denver reversed that in one step, and the per-36 numbers make the mechanism unambiguous: 21.4 points per 36 in 2024-25 against 14.4 in 2025-26, with minutes essentially unchanged. What improved alongside the drop is what you would expect from a player fed by Jokić rather than creating for himself — .480 from the field and .430 from three, both career highs, on far fewer self-generated looks, with turnovers nearly halved. At 30 he is at the point on the aging curve where shooting holds and athleticism does not, so the skill is not the question. For 2026-27 the entire range is a role question: retained in Denver he is a high-efficiency, low-volume specialist near his 2025-26 line, and the only path back toward top-100 category value is a trade into a team that needs him to take 14-plus shots again.
