Nine-category: deep-league draftable and standard-league watch-list; clean percentages/steals are more useful than the modest scoring looks. ESPN-default points: late-round upside if healthy, especially in weekly leagues with confirmed Williams absences. Dynasty: Hashtag No. 86 on July 2; valuable young rotation creator, not a guaranteed future starter.
Why the line looks like this
Mitchell averaged 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals in 25.8 minutes over 57 games, shooting 48.5% from the field and 87.0% from the line. He started 16 times and finished fifth in Sixth Man voting. More importantly, NBA's May return report credited him with 21.2 points on 48% shooting across the six playoff games Jalen Williams missed.
That role proof supports a usable ceiling, but not permanent 30-minute work. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams, Cason Wallace, Jared McCain, Nikola Topic and rookie Bennett Stirtz all need guard touches. Mitchell also exited the third quarter of West finals Game 3 with a right soleus (calf) strain and missed Games 4, 5, 6 and 7 — the final four games of the series — after earlier abdominal/ankle interruptions; no public July clearance was found.
Correction 2026-07-19: base GP cut from 61 to 55. Mitchell's own July update is "close to being back to 100" and "I still got a lot of work to do to just be 100% healthy" — active rehabilitation, not a clearance — and 61 sat above his career high of 57 against a two-season record of 36 and 57 with four separate lower-body/core absences (turf-toe surgery, abdominal strain, ankle sprain, soleus strain). OKC expects him ready for the opener, which is why the cut stops at 55, still a career-best assumption rather than a repeat of his average. SI/OnSI calf update, July 2026
The bench label is not settled. Thunder beat coverage describes Oklahoma City's fifth starting spot as more muddled than it has been in years and names Mitchell and Cason Wallace as the two likeliest candidates, with one piece arguing Mitchell is the most obvious option after functioning as the secondary star alongside Gilgeous-Alexander for much of the 2026 postseason. Correction 2026-07-18: this dossier previously assumed a fixed sixth-man role. The Mitchell-starts branch is now carried explicitly at roughly 30 MPG and a 15-4-4 line, which is standard-league draftable rather than deep-league only; the case against him is fit — three ball-dominant guards in one opening lineup — not production (SI/OnSI).

Category shape
- Wins: FG%, FT%, steals, low turnovers and secondary assists.
- Neutral: points and threes at 24 minutes.
- Costs: no category is fatal, but rebounds/blocks are light and volume can disappear when everyone is healthy.
- Build fit: efficient guard depth; particularly useful beside a high-turnover primary ballhandler.
Floor, base, ceiling
- Floor: soleus recovery lingers or McCain/Wallace win the reserve order, leaving 17-19 minutes and waiver value.
- Base: 24 minutes, 13-3-4 and one steal with positive percentages.
- Starting branch: he beats Wallace for the fifth spot on a healthy roster, settling near 30 minutes and a 15-4-4 line with a steal — standard-league draftable rather than a deep-league flier.
- Ceiling: Williams misses substantial time; Mitchell starts near 31 minutes and approaches 18-4-5 with 1.3 steals, a top-80 line.

| Availability | Medium-low | Ended season with soleus strain after abdominal/ankle issues |
Career record
Pre-NBA: Belgian, from Brussels. He joined Limburg United's youth program in 2019 and made two senior Pro Basketball League appearances in 2019-20, then played solely with the senior team in 2020-21 while retaining amateur eligibility; per-game production for those Belgian seasons is not verified here and is negligible in any case. He then played three years at UC Santa Barbara (2021-22 through 2023-24): 27 games, 32.1 MPG, 11.6 PTS, 2.2 REB, 3.7 AST, .531 FG / .327 3P / .750 FT as a freshman; 35 games, 33.8 MPG, 16.3 PTS, 2.7 REB, 5.1 AST, 1.3 STL, .506 / .267 / .813 as a sophomore; 29 games, 31.5 MPG, 20.0 PTS, 4.0 REB, 4.0 AST, 1.2 STL, .504 / .393 / .858 as a junior. Big West Freshman of the Year in 2022, Big West Player of the Year in 2023, first-team All-Big West in 2023 and 2024. The junior year is the tell: he added rebounds, fixed the three-point shot from .267 to .393, and shot .858 from the line — the efficiency package he now runs in the NBA. Draft: 2024, second round, 38th overall by New York; traded on draft night to Oklahoma City for the 40th overall pick and cash.

He started 1 game in 2024-25 and 16 in 2025-26, shot .383 from three as a rookie and .347 in year two, and finished fifth in 2026 Sixth Man of the Year voting.
Fantasy history: I could not verify a published season-end nine-category per-game rank for either season from Basketball Monster, Hashtag or the ESPN Player Rater, so no finishes are stated. 2024-25 was clearly outside standard-league relevance at 16.6 minutes across 36 games. 2025-26 is the first season with a real category profile, and its shape is narrow but efficient: strong FG% and excellent FT% on decent volume, 1.2 steals, low turnovers for a creator, and nothing at all in rebounds or blocks. Points leagues rate him a tier lower than categories, because 13.6 points and 3.6 assists is ordinary raw volume while the percentage edge that carries his category value is worth nothing in points formats. The dossier's Hashtag No. 86 figure is a July dynasty ranking, not a season-end finish.
Durability: 36 games in 2024-25, 57 in 2025-26. 2024-25 was ended in the middle by turf toe: he had surgery on a right-foot turf toe sprain and was ruled out 10-12 weeks on January 10, 2025. 2025-26 cost him a 20-game stretch to an abdominal strain and a sprained left ankle, from which he returned in March 2026 having averaged 14.1 points, 3.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals across his first 43 games. He then strained his right soleus in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals and missed the last four games of the series. That is three separate lower-body or core absences in two seasons and a career high of 57 games, which is the single largest reason his 2026-27 projection carries a games-played discount rather than a rate discount.
Trajectory: The year-two jump was real improvement, not just minutes. Per 36 he went from about 14.1 points and 3.9 assists as a rookie to 19.0 points and 5.0 assists in 2025-26, with steals rising from roughly 1.5 to 1.7 per 36 — the rates moved with the role rather than diluting under it. He paid for the added creation in exactly the place you would expect: three-point accuracy fell from .383 to .347 as volume nearly doubled, while free-throw shooting climbed to .870, which is the signature of a guard taking more contested pull-ups and drawing more contact. The six-game playoff run without Jalen Williams, where he scored 21.2 points on 48 percent, is the ceiling evidence, but it is a six-game sample against a specific absence and should not be treated as a role. He turns 25 in June 2027, so there is still normal development runway, but he is now old enough that the shape is mostly set: an efficient secondary creator whose fantasy value is a pure function of minutes on a roster that has too many guards. The bet for 2026-27 is that the rates hold and the games played do not.

Open questions
- Is the soleus fully healed for training camp after a four-game conference-finals absence?
- Does Daigneault start him or Wallace at the fifth spot, and does starting three ball-dominant guards survive contact with the defence?
- Does he remain first in line when Williams sits, or did McCain's playoff starting experience change the order?
- Can he lift three-point volume without losing the 48.5% FG advantage?
