Nikola Topic

Nikola Topic's return from ACL repair and testicular-cancer treatment is already a success, but Oklahoma City's guard logjam leaves his 2026-27 fantasy projection developmental rather than volume-driven.

Team: Oklahoma City Thunder · PG · Age 20 · Standard contract · Base role: four-minute developmental organizer

Nine-category: no standard-redraft value. ESPN-default points: waiver; assists per minute are interesting but the exposure is not. Dynasty: deep hold for size/vision, though Hashtag's July No. 333 rank reflects two lost development years and an awful landing for near-term minutes.

Why the line looks like this

Topic missed 2024-25 after a torn ACL, received a testicular-cancer diagnosis in October 2025, underwent surgery and chemotherapy, and made his NBA debut February 12, 2026. He played ten games, averaging 5.2 points, 1.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 16.0 minutes. Those assists preserve the upside thesis; 40% FT and 2.5 turnovers in ten games are too small a sample for a stable rate.

The problem is opportunity. SGA, Jalen Williams, Mitchell, Wallace and McCain are proven; first-round rookie Bennett Stirtz also needs development. The 240-minute base gives Topic four minutes, with 12-18 available only after multiple absences.

Career record

Pre-NBA: Serbian point guard in the Crvena Zvezda system from 2022. On loan at OKK Beograd (2023): 17.8 PTS / 5.3 AST / 3.8 REB on .552 FG in 19 Serbian League games. On loan at Mega (2023-24): 18.6 PTS / 6.9 AST / 3.7 REB in 13 ABA League games before returning to Zvezda mid-season — 2024 ABA League Top Prospect, 2023 FIBA U18 European Championship MVP. Partially tore his ACL in the May 2024 ABA Finals. Draft: 2024, Round 1, Pick 12, Oklahoma City Thunder.

Durability: Two lost seasons in a row for non-recurring reasons: the ACL tear (May 2024, all of 2024-25 missed) and testicular cancer (diagnosed October 30, 2025; surgery and chemotherapy, G League return February 9 and NBA debut February 12, 2026). Before that he was a durable teenage pro. The medical record is severe but neither issue is a chronic joint/soft-tissue pattern.

Trajectory: The record shows an elite-for-age passer — 6.9 ABA assists at 18, then 4.4 per game in 16 NBA minutes straight off chemotherapy — with a broken shooting line (40% FT in the 10-game sample) that cannot yet be treated as signal or noise. In 2026-27 he competes for the seventh-guard/development slot behind OKC's loaded backcourt, likely splitting time with the Blue. He becomes fantasy-relevant only if two guards ahead of him go down, at which point the assist rate makes him an instant deep-league add; his dynasty case rests entirely on the pre-injury scouting record, not the NBA sample.
