Tyrese Maxey

Tyrese Maxey remains a first-round fantasy guard, but Philadelphia's new four-creator lineup makes his 2025-26 minutes and defensive-stat spikes poor numbers to copy forward unchanged.

Research cutoff: July 18, 2026. Team: Philadelphia 76ers. Role: starting lead guard and primary perimeter scorer.

Health and uncertainty

Maxey sprained a tendon in his left pinky in March and was scheduled for reevaluation after three weeks; no fracture appeared. He returned for the postseason and appeared in 11 playoff games, so there was no public July restriction. The 68-game forecast reflects normal guard risk plus a team incentive to reduce a 38-minute load. NBA medical report, March 20, 2026 · Sixers game notes, May 2026

Alex Barutha's July 17 social analysis still saw a first-round case but explicitly flagged Brown-related usage risk. Yahoo's early first-round article ranked Maxey sixth; a July Reddit top-25 board also put him sixth, which is useful market sentiment rather than expert consensus. Confidence

Component Confidence Reason
Role/minutes Medium-high Clear lead guard; exact reduction depends on Nurse
Per-minute scoring/assists Medium Stable skill base, new four-creator lineup
Stocks Low-medium 1.9 steals/0.8 blocks invite regression
Games played Medium Returned from finger injury; smaller workload should help

Career record

Pre-NBA: Kentucky, one season. 2019-20: 14.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.4 blocks in a team-high 34.5 minutes over 31 games (28 starts) on .427/.292/.833, second on the team in threes made with 33. All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Freshman Team. A consensus five-star recruit widely projected as a lottery pick, the poor three-point rate pushed him down boards. Draft: 2020, first round, 21st overall by Philadelphia; not traded.

Awards: 2023-24 Most Improved Player; 2023-24 NBA Sportsmanship Award; All-Star in 2024 (Eastern Conference reserve) and 2026 (Eastern Conference starter, second-most votes). 2026 playoffs: 23.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 0.8 steals in 40.3 minutes across 11 games on .463/.364/.891, Philadelphia losing to New York 4-0 in the second round on May 10.

Fantasy history: Season-end 9-cat ranks are not verifiable from sources I could reach for any year of his career; do not treat any specific number as confirmed. What is verifiable is the direction — 2023-24 was the first season the profile carried first-round category weight (the assist jump to 6.2 alongside 3.0 threes and .868 free throw shooting), 2024-25 added the steal breakout but lost value to a .437 field goal percentage and only 52 games, and 2025-26 combined the volume with efficiency recovery for what was plainly the best category season of the six. The points-league shape is slightly stronger than the category shape rather than materially different: raw scoring and low turnovers for the usage carry more weight there, while his thin rebounding and near-zero career block rate get diluted. ESPN ranked him fifth on its April 2026 early points board against roughly sixth in category boards, which is the size of the gap.

Durability: 61 GP (2020-21), 75 GP (2021-22), 60 GP (2022-23), 70 GP (2023-24), 52 GP (2024-25), 70 GP (2025-26). The 2020-21 absences were largely a rookie reserve's rotational DNPs rather than injury, though the individual causes are not verified. 2021-22 included four games in the NBA's COVID-19 health and safety protocols in January 2022. The 2022-23 shortfall is one event: a small fracture in the left foot suffered November 18, 2022 against Milwaukee after stepping on Jevon Carter's foot, initially estimated at three to four weeks and ultimately costing 19 games. 2024-25 ended on March 3, 2025 with a sprained right finger; he reinjured it during his return ramp-up, an MRI confirmed the reaggravation, and combined with a lower back sprain Philadelphia shut him down for the year. 2025-26 repeated the mechanism in the same hand — a right pinky tendon sprain suffered in the closing seconds against Atlanta on a collision with teammate Adem Bona, X-rays and an MRI clean for fracture, a three-week reevaluation window that he beat by returning after 10 games in a splint. He averaged 30.0 points before that injury and 23.7 in the nine regular-season games after it, then played all 11 playoff games. Two consecutive seasons lost or interrupted by right-hand finger tendon injuries is the pattern worth pricing, not the 2022 foot.

Trajectory: Two role-driven leaps and one skill-driven one. Minutes went 15.3 to 35.3 when Ben Simmons's holdout opened the starting job in 2021-22, and creation went 3.5 to 6.2 assists when James Harden was traded in November 2023, which is what produced Most Improved Player. The 2025-26 gain is the different kind: minutes were flat at 37.5, 37.7, 38.0 across three seasons while per-36 scoring moved 24.9, 25.1, 26.8, so the career-high 28.3 was rate, not opportunity, and it came with field goal percentage recovering 2.5 points to .462 and free throw shooting reaching a career-best .892. That combination — more points on better efficiency at identical minutes — is the signature of a real prime rather than a usage artifact, and at 25 turning 26 in November he sits at the front of the curve. The one line that should not be copied forward is blocks: 0.8 against a 0.4 career rate for a 6-2 guard is the least stable number on the sheet, whereas 1.9 steals is now backed by two straight seasons at 1.8 or better and deserves more credit than the usual one-year-outlier treatment. The genuine 2026-27 risk is the 38.0 minutes surviving a lineup with three other players who can finish possessions, not the per-minute skill.
