Jaylen Brown

Jaylen Brown brings a high floor of scoring and rebounds to Philadelphia, but his career-year creation volume is the statistic most likely to disappear in the move.

Research cutoff: July 18, 2026. Team: Philadelphia 76ers. Role: starting scoring wing and secondary initiator.

Brown's 2025-26 baseline was about .477/.795 with 2.0 threes, 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.0 steal, 0.4 blocks, and 3.6 turnovers. Boston needed him to be its primary creator while Jayson Tatum was limited; Philadelphia does not. Rotoworld trade fallout, July 1, 2026 · Hashtag dynasty/stat page, updated July 2, 2026

Fit and health

Rotoworld projects Brown as the starting small forward and expects usage to fall, with Embiid's absences creating the recovery path. Athlon called him a top-40 fantasy option after the trade. Both are early analyst interpretations, not observed lineup data. Rotoworld, July 1, 2026 · Athlon, July 4, 2026

Brown reached roughly 72 games despite late-season management for Achilles tendinitis. No July source reported surgery or a current restriction, so the 67-game projection applies a modest veteran/soft-tissue discount, not an active-injury assumption. The larger unknown is whether Philadelphia uses him as a full-time 3 or asks him to defend larger forwards in small units.

Career record

Pre-NBA: California, one season (2015-16). 34 games, 27.6 minutes, 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.6 blocks on .431/.294/.654 — a high-usage slasher whose jumper and free-throw stroke were both liabilities. Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and first-team All-Pac-12. Draft: 2016, first round, third overall, Boston Celtics; no draft-night trade.

Fantasy history: Season-end 9-category per-game ranks from Basketball Monster, Hashtag, and the ESPN Player Rater are paywalled or not archived at public URLs, so no year-by-year rank is verified here. What the verified box-score lines support: from 2019-20 onward Brown has been a stable mid-round category asset rather than an early-round one, because the counting stats that carry him (points, rebounds, threes) sit alongside a free-throw percentage that only cleared .765 twice before 2025-26 and a turnover rate that has risen every year since 2023-24. The one public rank in the dossier — ESPN's 22nd in points leagues for 2026-27 — reflects the real gap between his formats: points leagues pay full price for 28.7 points and 5.1 assists and charge little for the 3.6 turnovers, so he has consistently graded a round or more better in points than in 9-cat.

Durability: 78, 70, 74, 57 (of a 72-game COVID-shortened season), 58, 66, 67, 70, 63, 71. Causes: a concussion cost him roughly two weeks in March 2018; 2020-21 ended early when a torn scapholunate ligament in the left wrist required May 2021 surgery; a hamstring strain in 2021-22 cost eight games; 2024-25 was played partly on a partially torn right meniscus that he carried through the playoffs; 2025-26 losses were a right knee contusion in late February and left Achilles tendinitis that cost games in late March. He had right knee surgery in mid-June 2026 to address the postseason meniscus tear, with recovery targeted at training camp. The pattern is not fragility so much as accumulation — nine of ten seasons between 57 and 78 games, none above 78 since his rookie year.

Trajectory: The single leap is 2019-20, when minutes went from 25.9 to 33.9 and Brown converted a 13.0-point role player into a 20.3-point starter; that jump was largely opportunity, but the efficiency held, which is what separated it from a minutes artifact. The second and more interesting move is recent and is not minutes at all — 2025-26 came at 34.4 MPG, essentially identical to 2022-23's 35.9 and 2024-25's 34.3, yet points rose 6.5 and assists 0.6 over the prior year on better free-throw shooting. That is a pure usage and role effect from Tatum's absence, not development, and it is exactly the piece Philadelphia is least likely to preserve. The genuine improvement buried underneath is the free-throw line: .795 on his highest volume is a career best and the first year his FT% was not a category drag. At 29 turning 30 in October he is at the back edge of prime, and the meniscus history argues the athleticism-dependent parts of his game decline before the shooting does. For 2026-27 the honest read is that the 2022-23 through 2024-25 band — roughly 22-26 points on 33-35 minutes — is the true talent level, and the 2025-26 line should be treated as a role-inflated outlier rather than a new baseline.
