Role and evidence
Şengün averaged 20.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.18 steals, and 1.07 blocks in 33.3 minutes across 72 games, shooting .519 from the field and .691 at the line (Rockets game notes). Houston noted that he joined Bird, Garnett, Antetokounmpo, and James as players to reach 20/8/6/1/1 in a season; the fantasy translation is unusually broad center production.
VanVleet's return can reduce raw assists but improve entry timing and spacing. Adams and Capela consume center minutes, yet Şengün's offensive-hub role is far more secure than either reserve's. Dynatyze ranked him 15th on July 3, FantasyPros' dynasty board placed him 27th, and one Reddit early board put him 25th.
Team-change risk
Kelly Iko reported on June 22 2026 that teams contacting Houston were told Amen Thompson is the "only near untouchable" Rocket. Houston is not shopping Şengün and has not made him available, but it has not shut down inquiries either, and the front office's post-Finals read is that this group is "a ways away." Boston discussed acquiring him as its starting center in a three-team framework that would have sent Durant to Detroit and Jaylen Brown to Houston; Houston never engaged and Brown was traded to Philadelphia.
Correction 2026-07-18: the dynasty grade stays at 9.0/10, but the justification changes. Earlier framing rested partly on Şengün being foundational to Houston; the June reporting does not support that as a distinguishing claim, since only Thompson is described that way. His value should be underwritten on the player — a 23-year-old offensive hub with hub-level passing — not on the certainty of this roster fit. Source as above.
Fantasy consequence for redraft is modest and mostly positive-skewed. Şengün's usage and touches are close to maximal in Houston's system; most plausible destinations would not reduce them, and one (a team without a Durant-scale scorer) would raise them. The genuine risk is the FT% and turnover profile discussed below travelling into a higher-usage role.
Range, confidence, and reversals
- Ceiling: 22/10/6.5 with 1/1 stocks and FT% above 72%; first-round punt-FT production.
- Floor: FT% stays below 69%, turnovers rise, and double-big spacing reduces closing offense; still a strong top-50 player.
- Confidence: roster and minutes high; counting rates high; FT% medium-low; availability medium-high.
- Points note: the assists and rebounds make him Houston's most stable reference-formula scorer even if Durant outpaces him in real points.
Career record
Pre-NBA: no college. Three seasons in Turkey. Bandırma Kırmızı in the second-tier TBL (2018-19): 29 games, 21.9 minutes, 10.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists on .476/.259/.600. Teksüt Bandırma in the top-flight BSL (2019-20): 22 games, 13.5 minutes, 5.0 points, 3.9 rebounds on .511 from the field, 0-for-10 from three. Beşiktaş (2020-21): 29 BSL regular-season games at 28.3 minutes for 19.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and the league MVP award on May 12, 2021; across all 34 games that season he shot .626/.212/.812. The .812 free-throw mark in Turkey is worth holding onto — it has never once been approached in the NBA. Draft: 2021, first round, 16th overall by Oklahoma City, traded on draft night to Houston for two future first-round picks.

Fantasy history: Season-end 9-cat per-game ranks are behind paywalls at Basketball Monster and Hashtag and are not archived publicly, so no year-by-year rank is asserted here. The category shape from verified lines is unambiguous and has been stable since 2022-23: elite center rebounds and assists, a genuinely positive FG% at real volume, roughly a steal and a block, essentially zero threes, and two categories he actively loses — free-throw percentage that has sat in a .691-to-.715 band for five straight years, and a turnover rate that reached a career-high 3.2 in 2025-26. That combination is why he grades materially better in punt-FT builds than in a standard nine-cat count, and why his points-league value tracks higher than his roto value: points formats reward the 20/9/6 line fully and do not penalize the .691.
Durability: 72, 75, 63, 76, 72. The one severe absence is 2023-24, ended March 11, 2024 by a grade 3 right ankle sprain and a right knee bone bruise suffered in a collision with Domantas Sabonis; he left the floor in a wheelchair and did not return that regular season. 2024-25 cost him a three-game stretch to a left calf contusion around early February 2025. 2025-26 was three separate absences, the largest a right ankle sprain suffered roughly a minute into a January game against Dallas that carried a 10-to-14-day re-evaluation window and briefly put his 65-game award eligibility in question; he recovered to 72 games. Four of five seasons at 72 or better is a strong availability record for a high-contact interior player.
Trajectory: Two real leaps, both structural rather than incremental. The first is 2022-23, when minutes went 20.7 to 28.9 and field-goal percentage jumped from .474 to .553 — that is not a minutes artifact, it is a shot-diet correction toward the rim. The second is 2023-24, when he became the offensive hub at 32.5 minutes and scoring reached 21.1. The 2024-25 season is the one that gets misread: rebounds peaked at 10.3 but efficiency fell to .496, which lines up with Houston's heavier double-big usage pushing him further from the basket. He reversed that in 2025-26 back to .519 while adding 1.3 assists, and the passing volume is now the most valuable and most durable thing he does — 6.2 assists from a center is a top-of-position outlier that does not depend on athleticism. The flat spot is free throws: five seasons, no improvement, despite .812 in Turkey, so the dossier's projected .705 and its ceiling case of "above 72%" are both betting against the entire NBA sample. At 23 turning 24 he is still pre-peak with the aging curve fully in front of him; the realistic 2026-27 gain is a further assist and efficiency step, not the free-throw fix.

Open questions
- Does Şengün's free-throw improvement persist over meaningful volume?
- How often does Houston pair him with Adams, and what does that do to rim efficiency?
- Does VanVleet shift assists from Şengün without adding enough easy baskets to compensate?
