Coby White

Coby White is Charlotte's nominal starting point guard and clearest volume winner, but calf durability and a scoring-guard skill set make his assist ceiling less certain than the depth chart suggests.

Correction 2026-07-18: base GP lowered from 68 to 60. White previously carried no availability discount at all and no rest-risk placement, and the injury ledger's Charlotte section stated that no non-Miller Hornets injury was material. That was wrong. White played 50 games in 2025-26 (29 Chicago, 21 Charlotte). A left calf strain was discovered at his trade physical and was material enough that Chicago and Charlotte renegotiated the deal, with Charlotte's outgoing second-round picks cut from three to two; he then missed his first six games as a Hornet and Charlotte was still holding him out for "left calf injury management" as late as March 3, easing him back deliberately to avoid a further setback. A soft-tissue injury that recurred across a single season is precisely the profile the ledger's own risk key says should take a totals discount. Hoops Rumors — amended trade · ClutchPoints

Nine-category: top 65-90; points and threes are bankable, but low stocks and only moderate assists keep him out of the early rounds. Points: top 45-70 on starting volume. Dynasty: top 90-120—a useful prime-age guard, not a franchise lead creator.

Opportunity versus fit

White replaces LaMelo Ball on the depth chart, not in play style. He has never averaged more than 5.1 assists, and his career 3.9 assists per game reflect a combo guard who attacks to score. Charlotte can still divide initiation among Miller and Knueppel, so a jump into the mid-fives is more defensible than projecting seven or eight.

The scoring case is cleaner. White averaged 20.4 points in 2024-25 and produced 15.6 points in only 19.3 minutes after the 2026 trade. Thirty-plus minutes and more free throws can put him back above 20 even if the offense slows.

Health and range

White played only 50 games because calf trouble limited him before and after the trade. Charlotte initially used minutes limits, rest, and back-to-back management. That history is now the primary total-value risk.

Market check

ESPN's April points list had White No. 138, before he re-signed and Ball was traded. Yahoo's unstamped live pre-rank showed No. 96. Hashtag's July 2 dynasty table ranked him No. 111; both RotoWire and CBS explicitly describe a substantial fantasy-value increase now that he starts. Older numbers should be treated as a floor signal, not a current role projection.

Career record

Pre-NBA: North Carolina, one season (2018-19). He started all 35 games at 28.5 minutes for 16.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists on .423 from the field, .353 from three and .800 from the line, taking second-team All-ACC and the ACC All-Freshman team. The college line already showed the tension in his profile: a nominal point guard leading a high-tempo team whose value came from pull-up scoring rather than creation, with a middling field-goal percentage on heavy volume. Draft: 2019, round 1, pick 7, Chicago Bulls. No draft-night trade. Chicago sent him with Mike Conley to Charlotte at the February 2026 deadline for Collin Sexton, Ousmane Dieng and three second-round picks; the two teams amended the trade terms after a physical revealed a left calf injury.

The 2025-26 row is combined. The split: 29 games in Chicago at 29.1 minutes for 18.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists on .438/.346/.805 with 3.0 turnovers; then 21 games in Charlotte off the bench at 19.3 minutes for 15.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists on .461/.391/.839 with 1.9 turnovers. Three-point percentage by season: .354, .359, .385, .372, .376, .370, .362.

Fantasy history: Season-end nine-category ranks from a primary rater were not verifiable in this pass and are not estimated. The arc the table shows is a bench-scorer-to-starter conversion in 2023-24: after four seasons between 9.7 and 15.1 points, the January 2024 promotion into 36.5 minutes produced 19.1 points, 5.1 assists and 2.6 threes, and 2024-25 improved on it at 20.4 points and 2.9 threes with a .902 free-throw percentage. Those two seasons were his only ones with genuine early-to-mid-round category value, and both were carried by threes, free-throw percentage and points rather than by anything defensive — 0.7 to 0.9 steals and 0.2 blocks are the permanent drag, alongside 2.1-2.4 turnovers. He rates better in points leagues than in categories in every season, since the format converts his scoring and three-point volume directly and does not penalize him for producing almost no stocks. ESPN's April 2026 points board had him 138th, but that predates both the Ball trade and his re-signing.

Durability: 65, 69, 61, 74, 79, 74, 50. The 2019-20 and 2020-21 totals were shortened-calendar seasons in which he missed little. The clearest documented absence is left shoulder surgery in June 2021, which was reported as at least four months and cost him the opening stretch of 2021-22 (61 games). 2023-24 at 79 games was his healthiest year. 2025-26 is the outlier at 50: he played only 29 of Chicago's pre-deadline games, then the physical after the February trade revealed a left calf injury, he was held out through the All-Star break, and he missed his first six games as a Hornet before debuting. Charlotte then managed him at 19.3 minutes for the rest of the year. The cause of the Chicago-side absences was not verified in this pass and should not be assumed to be the same calf.

Trajectory: White's career is a clean two-phase story. Phases one, 2019-20 through 2022-23, was an inefficient combo guard who could not hold a starting job and bottomed out at 9.7 points in 23.4 minutes. Phase two began when Chicago handed him the ball in January 2024, and the improvement was real rather than purely minutes-driven — field-goal percentage climbed from .394 as a rookie to .453 in 2024-25 while his volume roughly doubled, which is the opposite of the usual usage-efficiency tradeoff, and it came from shot-diet discipline and a genuinely improved pull-up three. What did not improve is playmaking: his career high in assists is 5.1, and even in Chicago's 2025-26 games at 29 minutes he was at 4.7 with 3.0 turnovers, so the Charlotte plan of using him as the nominal replacement for LaMelo Ball is a depth-chart fact rather than a stylistic one. At 26 he is squarely in his prime with no aging concern, and the two things that decide 2026-27 are minutes — 31-plus would put the 20-point scoring back on the table — and whether the 19.3-minute Charlotte usage was purely calf management or a preview of a shared backcourt.
