Team: Boston Celtics · Wing · Age 36 · Base role: 27-minute starter and secondary scorer when active
Projection card
| GP | MPG | 3PM | PTS | REB | AST | STL | BLK | FG% | FT% | TO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Nine-category: top-55 to top-80 per game, but more like a late-middle/late-round totals bet after applying 55 games. Points: missed games and a sub-30-minute plan make him format-dependent; avoid paying for the old star name. Dynasty: contender-only veteran, outside the top 150 in most startup contexts despite current per-game utility.
Evidence and transaction
Boston officially acquired George and four picks for Jaylen Brown on July 6. George's 2025-26 line was 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.7 steals in 30.7 minutes across 37 games. He remained a useful shooter/defender when active, including a strong late return, but his season had two separate availability events: left-knee arthroscopy after a July 2025 workout injury delayed his debut, and the NBA imposed a 25-game anti-drug suspension beginning January 31, 2026.
The suspension is complete and should not be projected forward as an automatic repeat. The knee, two injury-filled Philadelphia seasons, age and Boston's incentive to preserve him are the durable inputs. RotoWire notes that George has reached 70 games only once in the last seven regular seasons.

Category shape
- Wins: threes and steals remain the separator; useful points, rebounds and assists across wing slots.
- Neutral: FT% should help on moderate volume; FG% is no longer a major positive.
- Costs: turnovers and games played; blocks have settled near half a game.
- Build fit: a stronger per-game fit for punt-FG or turnovers-tolerant builds than for H2H teams that cannot replace frequent absences.
Floor, base, ceiling
- Floor: 35-45 games, 14 points and fewer than 26 minutes under aggressive maintenance. Per-game rosterable, totals rank outside the top 150.
- Base: 55 games, 27 minutes and 16.5-5-3.5 with 1.4 steals.
- Ceiling: 62-65 games, 29-30 minutes and roughly 19-5-4 with 1.6 steals. That is a top-45 per-game category outcome.
Risk and confidence
| Component | Confidence | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Roster | High | Trade is official; contract runs through at least 2026-27 |
| Minutes | Medium | Starter-quality skill versus clear preservation incentive |
| Rates | Medium-high | Long category-friendly history and 2025-26 steals held up |
| Availability | Low | 37 games, knee surgery, age 36 and persistent multi-year missed time |
George is one of the clearest cases where per-game rank and totals rank must remain separate. Any official no-back-to-back plan would move GP below 55; an unrestricted camp and preseason would support 58-60 but not erase the long history.
Career record
Pre-NBA: Fresno State, two seasons. 2008-09: 34 games, 34.6 MPG, 14.3 PTS, 6.2 REB, 1.9 AST, 1.7 STL, 1.0 BLK, 1.9 3PM on .470 FG / .447 3PT / .697 FT. 2009-10: 29 games, 33.2 MPG, 16.8 PTS, 7.2 REB, 3.0 AST, 2.2 STL, 0.8 BLK, 2.0 3PM on .424 FG / .353 3PT / .909 FT; All-WAC Second Team. The freshman-year 44.7 percent from three and the two-plus steals as a sophomore are the two skills that ended up defining his NBA fantasy profile. Draft: 2010, first round, 10th overall, Indiana Pacers — the highest pick in Fresno State history.

Sixteen seasons, no mid-season trades — every move (Indiana to Oklahoma City in 2017, to the Clippers in 2019, to Philadelphia in 2024 free agency, to Boston in July 2026) came between seasons, so no split rows are required. Most Improved Player in 2012-13 and nine All-Star selections.
Fantasy history: Year-by-year season-end nine-category ranks are not reliably verifiable from the sources available here, and no full list is asserted. One published nine-category analysis placed him 11th overall for 2018-19, which is consistent with the raw line but comes from a forum aggregation rather than Basketball Monster or Hashtag, so treat it as directional. The durable shape across sixteen seasons: threes plus steals with a positive FT% and a neutral-to-slightly-negative FG%, which made him a first-to-second-round category asset in every healthy prime year and a materially better category player than points player. That gap has now flipped in importance — since 2019-20 his per-game rank and his totals rank have diverged so far that they are effectively two different players, which is exactly the framing the rest of this dossier uses.
Durability: 61 / 66 / 79 / 80 / 6 / 81 / 75 / 79 / 77 / 48 / 54 / 31 / 56 / 74 / 41 / 37 games played, 2010-11 through 2025-26. The catastrophic event is 2014-15: an open fracture of the right tibia and fibula suffered August 1, 2014 in a USA Basketball scrimmage, which cost him all but six games. He returned to full durability for four seasons afterward — 81, 75, 79, 77 — so that injury is not the cause of the current pattern. The current pattern starts in 2019-20 and is cumulative rather than singular: offseason surgery on both shoulders delayed his 2019-20 debut to November; a torn UCL in the right elbow cost him 43 games across December 2021 to March 28, 2022; a right knee sprain on March 22, 2023 against Oklahoma City ended his regular season and playoffs; recurring groin problems (January 7 and 17, March 2 and 4, 2025) plus knee absences bookended a 41-game first Philadelphia season. In 2025-26 he had arthroscopic surgery on the left knee on July 14, 2025 after a workout injury, then logged knee-related absences from September 26, 2025 through January 28, 2026 essentially continuously, plus an ankle issue November 24. Separately, the NBA suspended him 25 games without pay on January 31, 2026 for violating the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program; George said publicly that while seeking treatment for a personal health issue he took an improper medication. He was eligible to return March 25, 2026. RotoWire's observation checks out against the table: 70-plus games once in the last seven seasons (74 in 2023-24).
Trajectory: The scoring peak was 2018-19 at 28.0 points with 3.8 threes and 2.2 steals, and the per-game skill held up unusually late — he was still a 22.6-point, 3.3-three, .471/.907 shooter at 33 in 2023-24. What has decayed is not the shot but the volume and the body. Across the two Philadelphia seasons his scoring dropped from 22.6 to 16.2 to 17.3 while his minutes fell only three per game, which means the decline is genuine per-minute erosion, not merely a smaller role. The encouraging signal in 2025-26 is narrow but real: on 30.7 minutes he raised his scoring and efficiency off the 2024-25 floor, cut turnovers from 2.6 to 1.7, and held 1.7 steals — the steal rate is the last elite tool and it has not moved. At 36 turning 37 in May 2027, he is past the point where any of this compounds, and the sensible read is that per-game production degrades slowly while availability degrades faster. For 2026-27 the honest projection is not about whether he can still play; the 37-game sample says he can. It is about how many nights a contending Boston team with no incentive to push him actually lets him.
