Why this shape
- The official signing report says he led all reserves with 205 made threes and finished third in Sixth Man voting. Miami needs exactly that gravity beside Giannis and Bam.
- The base depth chart starts Hardaway, matching RealGM's current projection, but Pelle Larsson can take defensive and closing minutes.
- A 40.7% three-point repeat is possible in cleaner Miami lineups, not bankable for a 34-year-old high-variance shooter. The median holds attempts better than percentage.
- His tiny turnover rate helps nine-category totals but cannot compensate when the shot is not falling.
Format outlook
- Nine-category: late-round pick or threes streamer, approximately 130–170 overall in a neutral build.
- LeBron fork: James was unsigned on 2026-07-18 with Miami a reported finalist and the highest bidder (ESPN). A signing pushes Hardaway from 25 MPG toward 18–20 and out of the draftable range in 12-team formats — he is the rotation piece with the least defensive justification for minutes once another wing creator arrives.
- Points: usually a late pick or waiver option because the peripheral line is so thin.
- Dynasty: contender-only depth; the one-year deal and age erase most long-window value.
- Best use: cycle him into lineups for four-game weeks or when Miami faces defenses that concede above-the-break threes.
Range and watchpoints
- Ceiling: 28 MPG, 3.2 threes and 15 points if he starts and closes consistently.
- Median: 25-minute specialist with meaningful weekly shooting volatility.
- Floor: 18–21 minutes behind Larsson, with too many empty category cells to roster.
- Role trigger: Miami's remaining signings. Another volume-scoring guard is the cleanest threat.
Video/scouting sample
The 28-point, eight-three performance against Oklahoma City is a useful visual of his fantasy mechanism—quick decisions, relocations and streak shooting—but is a ceiling sample, not an average-game projection.

Durability: Four seasons materially shortened, all lower-leg. 2015-16 was 51 games on a reduced Atlanta role rather than injury. A stress injury to his left shin cost him from early December 2017 and held him to 57 games. He then fractured the same lower leg after 19 games with Dallas in 2018-19, requiring surgery. The most serious was a fractured fifth metatarsal in his left foot on January 25, 2022, which ended his season at 42 games. Since then he has been reliable: 79, 77 and 80 games in the last three years.
Trajectory: Thirteen seasons of the same player — a volume movement shooter with a genuinely empty peripheral line, career 2.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 0.6 steals in 27 minutes. The role peaked as a Knicks starter in 2017-19 at 17-18 points and has settled into high-end bench scoring. The read on 2025-26 is that Denver produced his best efficiency at age 33 — .447 from the field and .407 from three against career marks of .419 and .366 — which is a career outlier on a career-normal 2.8 threes, so the attempts should carry to Miami and the percentage should not. He is the provisional starting shooting guard on a one-year deal, and the category identity is threes, points and unusually low turnovers with nothing else. The specific risk is not injury but displacement: Pelle Larsson has the defensive case for closing minutes, and a LeBron James signing or another scoring guard would push him from 25 minutes toward 18-20 and out of 12-team draftable range.
