Darius Acuff Jr

Darius Acuff Jr. is Sacramento's projected starting point guard and best dynasty asset, with immediate points-and-assists upside offset by rookie efficiency, turnovers, and weak defensive-category production.

Nine-cat: top-90 to top-115 median; punt-FG% and punt-TO teams can price him higher. Points: B+, Sacramento's No. 2 points asset behind Sabonis. Dynasty: 8.5/10; top-60 overall range.

Role and evidence

Sacramento selected Acuff seventh, waived DeMar DeRozan, and traded Devin Carter, leaving no incumbent point guard ahead of him. ESPN lists him first on the July 18 depth chart. His Arkansas line was 23.5 points and 6.4 assists on .484 from the field and .440 from three in 35.1 minutes, leading the SEC in both total points and total assists — a combination only Pete Maravich had previously managed (Arkansas game-by-game statistics). He was SEC Player of the Year, a consensus first-team All-American, and the Bob Cousy Award winner. That shooting profile is the strongest available argument against this desk's own rookie-efficiency bear case, and it is why the .439 FG% projection below is a Summer League read rather than a college one.

FantasyPros ranked him fifth among 2026 fantasy rookies and emphasized both a likely Day 1 start and high involvement. RotoWire's draft review called him the class's most polished offensive guard and noted a wide runway in Sacramento. Hashtag Basketball ranked him 55th in dynasty on July 2; its July 18 crowd board ranked him 61st.

Summer League showed both sides: live-dribble creation and passing translated, but misses and turnovers remained volatile. His late-event shutdown was reported as rest rather than a durable injury.

Career record

Pre-NBA: Cass Technical High School (Detroit) through his sophomore year, then IMG Academy in Bradenton; McDonald's All-American in 2025. One season at Arkansas, 2025-26: 36 games, 36 starts, 35.1 minutes, 23.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 6.4 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.3 blocks on .484 FG, .440 3PT, .809 FT, with a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio (implying roughly 2.1 turnovers per game — the per-game turnover figure itself is not separately verified). Set Arkansas single-season records for points (845) and assists (232), and scored a freshman-record 49 against Alabama on February 18, 2026. Awards: consensus first-team All-American, Bob Cousy Award (first Arkansas player and first freshman to win it), SEC Player of the Year, SEC Rookie of the Year, SEC Tournament MVP. Draft: 2026, first round, seventh overall, Sacramento Kings; no draft-night trade.

He has no NBA regular-season record yet — the 2026-27 season would be his first.

2026 Summer League (Las Vegas): 5 games of Sacramento's 8, 20.8 points, 1.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.0 steals, 3.8 turnovers on .350 FG and .278 3PT. High-water mark was 26 points on 9-of-18 against Brooklyn; he also had 19 points and 7 assists against the Clippers. He did not play the final three games, reported as a shutdown rather than an injury.

Fantasy history: None. No NBA seasons played, so no category or points-league finish exists.

Durability: College 2025-26: 36 of 36 games, every one a start, no reported absence. Summer League 2026: 5 of 8, sat out the remainder by team decision. No documented injury history at either level.

Trajectory: The college profile is unusually complete for a one-and-done guard — 23.5 points on .484/.440/.809 is elite-efficiency volume scoring, and 6.4 assists against a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio says the passing was controlled, not just high-volume. The gap between that and Summer League (.350 FG, .278 3PT, 3.8 turnovers) is the honest read on what changes against NBA length: the shot-diet went from a college offense built around him to contested pull-ups, and the turnover rate roughly doubled. That split is normal for a rookie lead guard and should not be over-weighted, but it does mean the 44 percent college three-point mark is not a usable prior for year one. At 19 he is at the very front of the aging curve with a clean runway in Sacramento — no incumbent point guard after the DeRozan waiver and Carter trade — so the minutes and usage are close to guaranteed. The realistic 2026-27 shape is high points and assists with a drag on FG% and turnovers, and essentially nothing in blocks; the questions are whether the jumper stabilizes and whether he ever produces steals at a rate his 0.8 college mark does not promise.
