Correction 2026-07-19: median GP cut from 66 to 58. Eason has not reached 66 games since his 82-game rookie year — 22, 57 and 60 in the three seasons since, 139 total. The 2023-24 tibia stress reaction is surgically resolved and the 2025-26 absences were unrelated ankle/oblique soft tissue, which is why the base sits on the post-surgery pair (57, 60) rather than the three-year mean of 46, but nothing in the record or in July reporting supports a six-game jump past his best post-rookie season; no active injury was found, so this is a chronic-pattern discount, not an injury flag. RotoWire profile — 139 appearances in three seasons
Nine-cat: top-90 to top-120, with top-70 upside if minutes rise. Reference points: 23.6 FP/G, grade C+. Dynasty: 6.5/10; strong per-minute profile, uncertain long-term role.
Role and evidence
Eason averaged 10.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.20 steals, and 0.47 blocks in 25.8 minutes across 60 games, shooting .416 from the field, .358 from three, and .776 at the line (Rockets game notes). Those rates support category value without a starting job, but the field-goal percentage and low assists keep him from being a complete player.
Houston re-signed Eason for five years and roughly $81 million on July 9. That materially raises roster confidence. It does not resolve whether he closes over Smith, Sheppard, or a veteran guard. Dynatyze's July 3 board placed him 104th, close to this minute-capped median.
Range, confidence, and reversals
- Ceiling: 29-31 minutes, 13/7 with 1.6 steals and 0.8 blocks; top-60 to top-75 in nine-cat.
- Floor: another 50-55-game season and 21 minutes behind Durant/Smith; a steals streamer rather than a set-and-forget starter.
- Confidence: roster high; minutes medium; steals/rebounds high; shooting and availability medium-low.
- Role trigger: a Durant absence or Smith trade is much more valuable than a nominal preseason starting label.
Career record
Pre-NBA: Cincinnati (2020-21) then LSU (2021-22). As a Bearcats freshman he averaged 7.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.3 blocks on .462/.241/.574, making the American Athletic Conference All-Freshman Team. He transferred to LSU and broke out as a sophomore off the bench: 16.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.1 blocks on .521/.359/.803, earning first-team All-SEC and SEC Sixth Man of the Year. Draft: 2022, first round, 17th overall, Houston Rockets; no draft-night trade.

Fantasy history: Season-end nine-category per-game ranks are not publicly verifiable for any of Eason's four seasons from the sources available here, so no year-by-year figure is asserted. What is documented: he was drafted around 102nd overall in 2025-26 preseason consensus, and in 2024-25 he finished second on Houston in per-game nine-cat value despite sub-25 minutes — a sixth-round return on a late-round cost. The category shape is stocks-and-boards with a real punt-adjacent problem: 2025-26 field-goal percentage of .416 on 25.8 minutes is actively negative, and the assist line has never cleared 1.5. Points leagues rate him materially lower than categories, because the counting-stat density that carries him in nine-cat converts to only about 23-24 fantasy points per game.
Durability: 82 games (2022-23), 22 (2023-24), 57 (2024-25), 60 (2025-26). The rookie year is the only full season. 2023-24 ended after a January 1, 2024 game against Detroit; a benign bone growth near the tibia and inner heel produced a stress reaction in the left leg, and he had season-ending surgery on March 4, 2024 with roughly a four-month recovery. 2024-25 absences were lower-leg soreness stemming from the same area plus two games lost to a concussion. 2025-26's 22 missed games were attributed to ankle and oblique strains rather than a recurrence of the leg. Three straight seasons under 61 games is the signal; the encouraging part is that the 2025-26 causes were unrelated soft-tissue events, not the tibia.
Trajectory: The arc is a per-minute peak in 2024-25 followed by a real regression in 2025-26 that more minutes disguised. Per 36 minutes he went from 17.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.3 blocks in 2024-25 to 14.7, 8.8, 1.7 and 0.7 in 2025-26 — every defensive counting stat fell while his role nominally grew to 34 starts. The cause is visible in the shot diet: three-point makes jumped from 1.1 to 1.6 as Houston asked him to space for Durant and Sengun, and field-goal percentage collapsed from .487 to .416 because the rim pressure that made him efficient was traded for volume he does not shoot well enough to justify. At 25 he is at the front of the aging curve, so the 2024-25 version is still the reasonable talent estimate, but the steal rate dropping by a third in one year is the number to watch — that is his single most valuable category and it is the one that moved most. For 2026-27, the five-year deal secures the roster spot without securing the closing role, and the realistic case is a return toward the 2024-25 efficiency at 2025-26 minutes rather than another leap.
