Projection card
| GP | MPG | FG | FT | 3PM | PTS | REB | AST | STL | BLK | TO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 58 | 30.0 | .485 (6.7/13.9) | .830 (4.5/5.4) | 1.4 | 19.3 | 5.0 | 3.7 | 0.9 | 0.4 | 1.8 |
Healthy active-game allocation: 30 minutes. Confidence: medium-high on healthy rates; low-medium on games played.
Correction 2026-07-18: allocation trimmed 33 → 30 minutes, matching his actual 2025-26 rate rather than exceeding it, as part of a team-wide rebalance that moved roughly 25 minutes to Orlando's bench. The prior map gave the top eight 215 of 240 minutes, which was not a supportable shape. See Orlando Magic.
2025-26 baseline
Wagner appeared in only 34 games at 30.0 minutes, averaging 20.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.3 blocks, 1.4 threes, and 1.7 turnovers. He shot .481 on 15.0 field-goal attempts and .823 on 5.8 free throws.
The season cannot be read as an ordinary small sample. Orlando announced a high left ankle sprain on December 8. After 25 missed games and recurrent soreness, the NBA reported him out indefinitely on February 18. He returned for the playoffs but suffered a right calf strain and missed Games 5 through 7. His 30-minute season average therefore understates an unrestricted role while his 34-game total makes a full durability rebound unsafe to assume.
Role and pathway
Wagner starts on the wing and shares initiation with Banchero, Bane, and Suggs. He is the roster's most natural connector: he can attack a tilted defense, operate pick-and-roll, finish inside, and support rather than dominate a possession. The base restores him to 33 minutes and lifts assists toward 4.1 without assuming a career-high usage share.
Sweeney's largest fantasy lever is staggering. More Wagner-led second-unit minutes would improve assists and scoring while reducing Banchero overlap. A healthy season also likely reduces Anthony Black's on-ball ceiling.
Category shape
- Strong: efficient scoring, free-throw volume, rebounds and assists from a wing, relatively controlled turnovers.
- Helpful: steals.
- Average: threes.
- Weak: blocks and elite-category scarcity.
Wagner's value comes from having few damaging categories, not from winning one by himself. That makes him a flexible roto and H2H selection—when available.
Format and market map
| Format | Base posture |
|---|---|
| 9-cat redraft | Top-45 to top-75 per game; totals rank carries a large discount |
| H2H points | Middle-round target only after health discount |
| Dynasty categories | Orlando's best young balanced asset |
| Dynasty points | Strong but below Banchero's volume ceiling |
Dynatyze displayed Wagner 22nd on July 18, and Hashtag's analyst dynasty board ranked him 30th, both ahead of Banchero. ESPN's early points list placed him 68th, Alex Barutha's rapid list 63rd, and Sports Illustrated's early top 50 40th. A July industry mock posted to Reddit selected him 46th.
Yahoo's May exit interview suggested a fourth- or fifth-round 2026-27 price after rehabilitation. That is defensible on per-game expectation but leaves limited cushion if camp reports remain vague.
Floor, base, and ceiling
| Scenario | Line of value |
|---|---|
| Floor | Another 35-45-game season, reduced burst, 19/5/3.5; difficult totals asset despite usable per-game efficiency |
| Base | 58 games at 33 minutes, 21.2/5.5/4.1 with balanced percentages |
| Ceiling | 70-plus games, 23/6/5, 1.7 threes and 1.1 steals; top-35 per game and strong totals value |
The base GP is intentionally conservative. A fully cleared camp can move it into the mid-60s; any recurrence or delayed ramp can move it below 50.
Injury and availability
The ankle and calf are separate lower-body concerns, and the ankle produced recurrent soreness after a lengthy absence. The projection does not diagnose future risk; it treats the public timeline as a materially wider availability distribution than a routine one-off sprain. Draft value should respond to specific medical clearance, preseason workload, and back-to-back handling rather than generic “looks healthy” reports.

Career record
Pre-NBA: A professional before he was a collegian. Wagner came up with Alba Berlin in the German Basketball Bundesliga from 2017 to 2019, playing 2018-19 on a dual contract with Alba and SSV Lokomotive Bernau in the third-tier ProB; he averaged 4.6 points in 12.4 minutes in the BBL and won the league's Best Young Player Award in May 2019. He then spent two seasons at Michigan: 11.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.0 assists in 30.8 minutes across 27 games on .452/.311/.833 as a freshman in 2019-20, Big Ten All-Freshman Team; then 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists in 31.7 minutes across 28 games on .477/.343/.835 as a sophomore, second-team All-Big Ten from the coaches, third-team from the media, and first-team Academic All-American. The college scoring never suggested a 24-point NBA season — the connective passing and defense did. Draft: 2021, first round, eighth overall by Orlando; no draft-night trade.

Three-point percentage by season: .354, .361, .281, .295, .345. That two-year collapse in 2023-24 and 2024-25, and the partial recovery in 2025-26, is the most volatile line in his profile.
Fantasy history: No season-end nine-category finish was verifiable from public sources for any of his five seasons, so none is asserted here — the market ranks collected elsewhere in this dossier are forward-looking boards, not results. What the record does establish is a category shape built on the absence of holes rather than the presence of a carrying skill: free-throw percentage in the .820-.870 band on real volume, useful wing rebounds and assists, a steal a game, and turnovers that stayed controlled even in his highest-usage season. Blocks have never been a contributor at 0.2-0.4. Threes are the swing category and have been unreliable — 1.2 to 1.7 makes at percentages ranging from .281 to .361. Points formats have valued him similarly to categories, since he has neither a punt-worthy weakness to exploit nor a scarce category to monopolize.
Durability: 79, 80, 72, 60, 34. The first three seasons were close to ironman; the last two are the problem. 2024-25 ended at 60 games because of a torn right oblique suffered on 2024-12-07, which cost him until a 2025-01-23 return. 2025-26 was worse and more concerning: Orlando announced a high left ankle sprain on 2025-12-08, and the injury never resolved — he missed 40 of the team's final 44 regular-season games and the NBA reported him out indefinitely on 2026-02-18 after recurrent soreness. He returned for the playoffs, then strained his right calf in Game 4 against Detroit and missed Games 5 through 7 as Orlando lost a 3-1 series lead. Wagner himself described rehabbing the same injury three times in one year and the repeated setback feeling. High ankle sprains that recur across a full season are a materially different signal than a one-off soft-tissue event.
Trajectory: The scoring arc through 2024-25 is genuine and mostly independent of playing time — 15.2 to 18.6 to 19.7 to 24.2 points while minutes moved only from 30.7 to 33.7, so per-minute production rose roughly 45% across four seasons. That is skill and usage, not opportunity. The complication is that the 2024-25 peak came at his worst field-goal percentage since his rookie year and on .295 from three, meaning the extra volume arrived through drives and free throws rather than improved shooting; his .481 mark in the 34 healthy 2025-26 games at lower usage suggests the efficient version and the high-volume version have not yet been the same player. He enters 2026-27 at 25, squarely in the prime window where the skill curve should still be rising, and the shooting recovery to .345 from three is a real if small positive. But the availability distribution now dominates the projection: three straight declining games-played seasons ending at 34, with the most recent injury being one that specifically failed to resolve across a full calendar. The per-game bet is sound; the totals bet requires evidence from camp that does not yet exist.

Open questions
- Is Wagner fully cleared from both the ankle and calf before camp?
- Will Orlando protect him on back-to-backs or cap early-season minutes?
- Does Sweeney stagger him away from Banchero often enough to unlock five assists?
- Can his three-point volume rise without sacrificing rim attempts?
