Current decision card — expires August 4
This is a 48-hour camp-status decision, not a permanent ranking. Re-run the exact gate below immediately before making the pick. The draft is late August but its exact date is unknown.Recommendation as of 2026-08-02
If the draft were now, take Puka Nacua at 1.01. This is a current-evidence fallback, not a claim that his 339.3 projected full-PPR points exceed the two lead backs' projections. Puka is the only candidate in this tier with current two-family evidence of normal participation and no player restriction.
If only Bijan Robinson clears, switch to Bijan. If only Jahmyr Gibbs clears, switch to Gibbs. Do not pre-switch to either: Bijan's current participation and role-share gate remains open, while Gibbs's back-issue versus contract-status ambiguity remains open. If both clear, Gibbs is the provisional branch — his 367.4 projection narrowly exceeds Bijan's 366.9 and his 1.6 FFC ADP leads Bijan's 2.0 — but re-run the availability-adjusted 10-team model before locking the pick. That tiny raw edge is not permission to ignore Bijan's role evidence or Gibbs's recent absence.
Christian McCaffrey is practicing, but the club's planned workload reduction leaves his July 279-carry/82-catch forecast unconfirmed. Ja'Marr Chase has attendance evidence, not the two-source full-participation confirmation. Neither is an automatic substitute for Puka today.
The current top tier
FFToday native stat lines, source update 2026-07-30 and accessed 2026-08-02, were scored under this league's full-PPR settings (one point per reception; fractional yards). FFC is the current 10-team PPR market proxy, not ESPN ADP: its August 2 snapshot covers 4,121 drafts from July 26–August 2.
| Player | Pos | Full-PPR pts | Key projected volume | FFC 10-team overall ADP | Current status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jahmyr Gibbs | RB | 367.4 | 279 carries, 72 catches | 1.6 | Unresolved: absence/possible back issue versus contract status |
| Bijan Robinson | RB | 366.9 | 280 carries, 84 catches | 2.0 | Unresolved: current participation has not cleared the gate |
| Puka Nacua | WR | 339.3 | 116 catches, 1,561 receiving yards | 2.7 | Clear participation evidence; Stafford's managed camp cadence remains a separate watch |
| Ja'Marr Chase | WR | 330.5 | 116 catches, 1,474 receiving yards | 4.1 | Attendance verified; full participation not independently verified |
| Christian McCaffrey | RB | 345.9 | 279 carries, 82 catches | 5.0 | Active in camp; season workload adjustment remains open |
These are source-stat-line totals, not a promise of 17 healthy games. Current 10-team supply also means do not carry forward a 12-team scarcity argument or the old 1.24/1.25 turn assumptions: this team's snake picks are 1, 20, 21, 40, 41, and so on.
Exact switch rules
Puka → Bijan (only-Bijan-clears branch)
Select Bijan Robinson only when, within 48 hours of the decision, both are true and Gibbs has not also cleared his gate:
- A Falcons or NFL primary report says he returned to full team practice or has no injury/participation restriction; and
- A separate named national or local beat-reporting source independently confirms active first-team/team-period participation with no injury designation.
If a current role report instead shows Brian Robinson repeatedly taking Bijan's first-team goal-line or two-minute work, do not assume Bijan's 280-carry/84-catch forecast still holds. Obtain first preseason first-team usage or two consecutive named-practice reports before treating that role split as real.
Puka → Gibbs (only-Gibbs-clears branch)
Select Jahmyr Gibbs only if Bijan has not cleared and the same two-source test establishes that Gibbs has returned to full team work with no designation and resolves the reported back issue as non-limiting. A generic "day to day" statement, an unexplained missed practice, PUP/NFI/IR, or a hold-in theory is not a clearance.
Both lead-back gates clear
If both players meet their exact two-source clearance gates, make Gibbs the provisional 1.01: the frozen source edge is 367.4 versus 366.9 projected full-PPR points and 1.6 versus 2.0 FFC 10-team ADP. Before committing, re-run the availability-adjusted 10-team model on the same source freeze. If new first-team role evidence changes Gibbs's bell-cow case or confirms a material Bijan goal-line/pass-down split, reopen rather than treating either tiny market or projection edge as decisive.
Stay on Puka / reopen the card
- Stay on Puka if neither lead back meets its gate. Do not turn unresolved news into a medical conclusion.
- Reopen rather than auto-substitute if Nacua misses practice or is designated, or if Stafford's status escalates; confirm either event through a club/NFL source and an independent reporting family.
- Reopen McCaffrey if preseason first-team usage contradicts the announced workload reduction; routine camp participation alone does not restore a 279/82 workload forecast.
- Reopen Chase when a second current source establishes full team participation without a limitation. His August 1 team-media appearance alone is not that confirmation.
Why the gate outranks a tiny projection edge
Gibbs leads Bijan by 0.5 projected points; Bijan leads Puka by 27.6. Those totals provide a useful prior, but cannot settle a present camp absence. The lead backs have the better raw full-PPR projection case; Puka has the only cleared current availability case. The decision therefore separates projection from status instead of silently discounting a player or pretending a photo, pre-camp preview, or contract rumor is medical clearance.
Provenance and limits
- Projection totals above are recomputed from FFToday's native 2026 stat lines; do not use its displayed half-PPR fantasy totals for this league.
- ADP is FFC's 10-team PPR CSV snapshot, not ESPN's own market. It describes mock-draft behavior, not who this team must select.
- Current participation evidence and all switch gates are from
verify-first-pick.md(2026-08-02). Its underlying club/NFL and named-report links are the decision evidence. - League premise: 10 teams, no keepers, full PPR, 16 drafted roster spots plus IR, snake draft with 1.01 locked. Payout reconciliation is unresolved but does not change the 1.01 player decision.
If this card has passed its expiry or any gate event changes, do not use its recommendation. Refresh the source snapshot and replace the dated branch.
