An alpha X for Cincinnati and an elite 10-team candidate at ADP 4.1; he is not a 1.01 choice merely because he belongs in the first overall tier.
Live 10-team decision status — 2026-08-02
10-team decision data: ADP 4.1, projection 330.5 points, risk med. Camp attendance is verified but full participation lacks independent corroboration; retain the monitor.
Source: promoted Data/players.csv and Data/current-status.csv. This section supersedes every older July ADP, projection-source date, risk flag, pick-band/turn, and current-role assertion below. Older explanatory prose remains only as context.
Reading rule: material below this block is historical/model context unless it repeats the promoted values and 10-team baseline above; it is not live draft instruction.
The role
He is the first read in his offense: lined up wide, targeted whether or not the matchup is favourable, and unaffected by which defender is on him. That job produces a high, repeatable target count — throws in his direction, counted whether or not he catches them — and in full PPR every one he catches is a point before yardage. His team also carries a big slot receiver, a shorter-throw, higher-volume inside role, but the file has that teammate projected for barely half Chase's catches.
The number
ADP 4.1, from the reviewed candidate feed. ADP is average draft position, where a player typically goes across many drafts (see Fantasy football glossary). This is a Fantasy Football Calculator PPR 10-team proxy (ffcalc-ppr-10tm-2026-08-02), not ESPN's own board.
The risk
His candidate-model risk flag is med. Attendance is verified, but full participation has not been independently corroborated; that is a status gate, not a projection change. His week 6 bye is a calendar consideration, not a 1.01 tiebreaker. Availability is not the established exposure either — he has missed two games in three seasons, one of them a scheduled rest rather than an injury.
The context
He is 26.5 at the September 9 opener and was the fifth pick of the 2021 draft, taken by Cincinnati out of LSU and never anywhere else. He has played 16, 17 and 16 games, missing two in three years; the report listed him Out once and Questionable or Doubtful four weeks, naming a shoulder twice and a back once, and one of those entries is a scheduled rest rather than an injury. In 2025 he played 94.4 percent of Cincinnati's offensive snaps — plays, see Fantasy football glossary — the highest share of anyone atop this board, and caught 125 of 185 targets, 30.4 percent of everything his team threw. The projected 116 catches sits nine below that. He is paid: $161 million, about $40 million a year, no free agency until 2030.

Open questions
- Is the ADP-versus-projection gap real information the model is missing, or just name recognition in a mock-draft crowd? A proxy market cannot tell me.
- Does the projection assume the Cincinnati passing game stays split the way it currently sits on the depth chart?
