League size and replacement level

Ten teams change the question behind every pick: not “is this player good?” but “how much better is he than the player I can still get later or from the wire?” The player pool has not changed. The number of teams competing for it has.

The current model lines

This league starts 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE and 1 FLEX for ten teams. The FLEX is usually won by an RB or WR. The board therefore uses these season-long replacement ranks:

Position Replacement rank July projection baseline Why
RB 24 208.3 Two RB slots plus FLEX demand thin the useful-back pool.
WR 26 201.5 Two WR slots plus most FLEX demand push the line past WR20.
TE 10 167.5 One starter per team makes the fallback much better than in a 12-team league.
QB 10 295.3 One starter per team and abundant NFL starters make waiting viable.

These are model baselines from the current players.csv, not universal ranks or a prediction that the player at each line will remain unrostered. Recalculate them when projections or settings change.

What shallow changes

All managers can build a respectable starting lineup. The advantage comes from elite RB/WR roles, where the gap to RB24/WR26 is still meaningful, and from declining to pay a premium for merely acceptable QB/TE options whose fallback is already strong.

What does not change

League size does not erase role scarcity. There are still only so many lead-back, first-read, goal-line and high-target jobs. It changes the penalty for missing one: in a shallow league the fallback is better, so reaching for an ordinary player to “secure a starter” is usually worse than waiting for value.

Market ADP estimates who survives to the next turn; replacement level says what that survival is worth. Keep the two jobs separate.
