Live 10-team decision status — 2026-08-02
10-team decision data: ADP 129.2, projection 46.5 points, risk high. Javonte Williams is RB1; Blue is one of several unresolved RB2 contingencies, not a sole handcuff.
Source: promoted Data/players.csv and Data/current-status.csv. This section supersedes every older July ADP, projection-source date, risk flag, pick-band/turn, and current-role assertion below. Older explanatory prose remains only as context.
Reading rule: material below this block is historical/model context unless it repeats the promoted values and 10-team baseline above; it is not live draft instruction.
The role
A handcuff (Fantasy football glossary) is the backup to a lead running back. He scores essentially nothing while the man ahead of him is healthy, and inherits a startable job the week that changes. The man ahead of him is Dallas's Javonte Williams, the highest-projected running back on the roster in Data/players.csv and a three-down bell cow — on the field for every down, taking both the carries and the catches. Blue is a bet on that role coming free, not on Blue.
The number
46.5 projected points — from the reviewed 2026-08-02 candidate feed, a model projection rather than an observed total. Across a full season that is roughly 2.7 points a game: unstartable. The number is the argument, and the argument is that you are buying the branch where this number is irrelevant.
The risk
The CSV flags his risk as high, which understates how binary it is. Insurance backs average roughly 3.2 starts a season (Player archetypes, The injury-inheritance asymmetry) — so the expected value of any one handcuff is small even though the payoff when it lands is large, because the back who inherits the job absorbs nearly the whole vacated role rather than sharing it. A basketball instinct that a bench spot is free option value misreads this: with sixteen roster spots and weekly waivers that reset to the inverse of the standings, the spot has a real price. One caution on how his availability reads — the avail figure of 0.559 in the context file is a model, a games-played rate shrunk toward the position mean, and here it is measuring a coach's decisions rather than a body.
The context
He is twenty-two on the September 9 opener, the youngest player here, and a 2025 fifth-round pick — 149th overall, by Dallas, out of Texas. That is thin draft capital: teams hand jobs to the picks they spent on, and Dallas did not spend much here. He has one NFL season behind him rather than none, but barely. He was active for 5 of 17 games in 2025, and none of those twelve absences were medical: he never appeared on the official injury report, not a week Out, not a week Questionable, no body part named. He was simply not dressed. When he played he took 25.6 percent of the snaps (a snap is one play — Fantasy football glossary), carried 38 times, and saw one target all season. He is on a rookie deal through 2028.
Earlier candidate note — superseded
DAL RB — ADP 129.2; 46.5 points; high-risk handcuff model. Javonte Williams is RB1; Blue is one of several unresolved RB2 contingencies, not the sole handcuff.
Provenance: Data/research/candidates/2026-08-02/players.candidate.csv and Data/current-status.csv. Current-status evidence is narrower than the candidate model.
Open questions
- If the starter's role does come free, is Blue actually the inheritor, or does Dallas split it? Nothing in the CSV settles that. See Reading an NFL depth chart.
- His ADP is 129.2 in the reviewed Fantasy Football Calculator PPR 10-team candidate feed, a proxy for ESPN's own ADP. That is a live late-draft price between the 120/121 and 140/141 turns; compare him with the other contingent-upside bets. See How much to spend on running backs.
