Live 10-team decision status — 2026-08-02
10-team decision data: ADP 54.9, projection 301.3 points, risk med. He is present in camp with no high-impact restriction found, but one report does not change the forecast; recheck with Chase participation.
Source: promoted Data/players.csv and Data/current-status.csv. This section supersedes every older July ADP, projection-source date, risk flag, pick-band/turn, and current-role assertion below. Older explanatory prose remains only as context.
Reading rule: material below this block is historical/model context unless it repeats the promoted values and 10-team baseline above; it is not live draft instruction.
The role
Everything he scores comes from throwing. That is the pocket-QB label, and it matters because a rushing QB adds running yards at 0.1 a point each and rushing touchdowns worth six against a passing touchdown's four — a second income stream nobody else at the position has. A pocket QB collects only the first stream in a shallow 10-team market; compare the promoted projection with QB10, not the obsolete twelfth-starter benchmark.
The number
182 rushing yards projected in the promoted Data/players.csv model. It is a forecast, not an observation. The rushing-QB threshold is 350; he is not close, so his total depends on passing in a position that should be evaluated against QB10.
The risk
The promoted CSV lists his risk as med. The risk is not only positional: his 301.3-point projection assumes seventeen games from a quarterback who has played seventeen once in three years, while the current camp report is limited to no high-impact restriction. At ADP 54.9, compare him to QB10 and the live 40/41–60/61 alternatives rather than treating an older price as an instruction. See Late-round quarterback and Availability and injury risk.
The context
He is 29 on the September 9 opener, the first overall pick of the 2020 draft, and his hold on the job has never been in doubt. His availability has. He played 10 games in 2023, 17 in 2024 and 8 in 2025 — 35 of a possible 51. The official weekly report listed him Out only three times, naming toe, calf and a right wrist; the other thirteen absences do not appear on that report at all, so the file records that he was gone without recording why, and you should not assume all of it was medical. When he did play in 2025 he took 87.8% of Cincinnati's snaps and threw for 1,809 yards in eight games. He is the best-paid player in this window by a distance, at $55 million a year.

Earlier candidate note — superseded
CIN QB — ADP 54.9; 301.3 points; medium-risk pocket-QB model. Present with no high-impact restriction found; one camp report is not a projection change.
Provenance: Data/research/candidates/2026-08-02/players.candidate.csv and Data/current-status.csv. Current-status evidence is narrower than the candidate model.
Open questions
- Is there any version of the draft where taking a quarterback in the 40/41–60/61 range is right — a run on the position, say? See Reading the draft room.
- His bye is week 6, the second-worst week of the 2026 season for byes.
