Age, games played, injury-report weeks, usage and contract terms are observed. Availability and Adj VOR are models. The site source state is 2026-08-02; projection and ADP files carry their own dated provenance.

The role

He is the three-down bell cow: the back who stays on the field on every down, including passing downs, so he collects both carries (handoffs) and catches. In full PPR every reception is worth a full point before a yard is gained, which is why stacking those two income streams on one roster spot is worth more than any receiver's single stream. His note column reads 281 carries + 42 catches projected — carry volume at the very top of the position with a real receiving share attached.

The number

The July players.csv estimate of 262.3 projected points is historical input, not a live turn instruction. The gated August-2 candidate file retains that estimate and lists 10-team proxy ADP 18.2; it remains a model output, not observed production.

The risk

The CSV flags him low risk, but the Aug. 2 status ledger adds a real environment caveat: A.J. Brown is now in New England, leaving Philadelphia's target allocation unresolved under a new offense. That does not turn Barkley into a committee back, nor does it certify his receiving share; it means the 42-catch projection is not a settled role. The observed availability record adds an age and full-season-assumption check: 46 of 51 games is strong, but the 17-game projection remains a model rather than a clearance.

The context

Observed, from Data/player_context.csv (nflverse, OverTheCap; retrieved 2026-07-25).

He is 29.6 on the September 9 opener and was the second pick of the 2018 draft — the most draft capital a back can get (Draft capital dominance). He has played 14, 16 and 16 games, 46 of a possible 51. Only one of the five he missed was a week the report listed him Out, ankle the only part named; the other four fall outside the injury report — not medical absences, one a coach's decision. In 2025 he played 78.7 percent of Philadelphia's snaps — a snap is one play (Fantasy football glossary) — carried 280 times and caught 37 of 50 targets, 10.8 percent of the throws. The projected 281 carries repeats last season. He is paid like a star at 20.6 million a year, free agent in 2029.
