August 2 10-team update
10-team ADP: 23.7; projection: 239.6 points; model risk: low. He is not assumed to reach the 20/21 turn. No player-specific August 2 exception is in the status ledger. This block supersedes earlier numeric, risk, and turn language.
The role
He is the field-stretching Z: the deep threat, targeted less often than a team's alpha but for much longer throws. The scoring profile swings week to week — a quiet three-catch afternoon, then a long touchdown and a hundred-plus-yard game. That variance is a false friend to a fantasy basketball instinct: consistency is not the goal here. This league pays $500 for first and nothing for fourth, so a wide range of outcomes is an asset late in a roster — see How the league is won.
The number
The promoted row projects 239.6 points, 79 catches, and 1,186 yards. That yardage supports the field-stretching profile, but it is a forecast—not a promise that he reaches the 20/21 turn.
The risk
The candidate board flags him low risk, but his fantasy path remains yardage-sensitive: a Z needs long gains to offset a high-catch receiver in full PPR, and long plays are volatile. The projection is also priced at seventeen games, while he has played 15, 12 and 15 in the last three seasons. Treat that as an availability assumption rather than a promise that the role or target share is settled.
The context
Observed, from Data/player_context.csv (nflverse, OverTheCap; retrieved 2026-07-25).
At 27.5 on the September 9 opener, he is the counterexample to the draft-capital rule (Draft capital dominance): Houston took him 89th overall in 2021, in the third round, and outgrew it. He has played 15, 12 and 15 games, 42 of a possible 51: Out twice, Questionable or Doubtful three times, naming calf, hamstring and concussion; seven of the nine games missed fall outside the report, so not medical. In 2025 he ran 75.9 percent of Houston's snaps — a snap is one play (Fantasy football glossary) — catching 71 of 120 targets, 21.7 percent of the throws. The projection asks for 79 catches and 1,186 yards, more than he just did. He is the best-paid of the six, 30 million a year, free agent in 2028.
Open questions
- The Z-versus-alpha distinction here is a cut on projected yards per catch, and he sits near the boundary — a small projection revision could flip the label without changing the player.
- His bye is week 8. If he reaches 20/21, choose the companion pick from the remaining RB/WR board rather than forcing a second receiver or a stack; if he is gone, move directly to the fallback cluster instead of chasing his July price.
