The role
Most starting tight ends in the NFL are hired to block: on the field all game, almost never thrown to, scoring nothing no matter how good they are at football. That is the blocking TE, and it is why tight end is a usage question rather than a talent question. McBride is the other kind — a move TE, split out away from the offensive line and targeted like a receiver. A target is a throw in his direction, counted whether or not he catches it; his whole value is that his team points them at him instead.
The number
The promoted file lists 250.9 projected points, 104 catches, and 10-team proxy ADP 34.2. Those catches are 104 PPR points before yardage, but they remain a projection rather than observed production.
The risk
The CSV's risk column reads low, but that is a projection-confidence flag, not a durability rating. Arizona's Aug. 2 status ledger still treats its QB1 situation as unresolved, so McBride's 104-catch line is not a quarterback-neutral fact. The real exposure is that a hundred-catch tight end sits at the extreme top of what the position produces while Arizona also fields a three-down bell cow and a field-stretching Z drawing on the same finite pool of touches. One thing the historical observed record does settle: he missed one game in three seasons.
The context
He is 26.8 on the September 9 opener, a second-round pick — 55th overall in 2022 — by the same Arizona team he still plays for. He has played 50 of a possible 51 games since 2023, missing exactly one; the official injury report has listed him Out for one week and Questionable or Doubtful for two, against a groin, a concussion and ribs. In 2025 he was on the field for 91.4 percent of Arizona's offensive snaps — individual plays — and drew 169 targets, 27.4 percent of everything the team threw, catching 126 for 1,239 yards. So the projection of 104 catches is twenty-two fewer than he actually caught. He is paid — 19 million dollars a year — and is not a free agent until 2030.

August 2 candidate snapshot
The gated 10-team candidate file lists 250.9 projected points, 104 catches, and Fantasy Football Calculator 10-team PPR proxy ADP 34.2. The volume estimate is still a projection and depends on Arizona's unresolved offensive allocation.
- Does the projection survive the August 30 roster cutdown, or does it quietly assume last year's usage carries over unchanged?
- His bye falls in week 14 — the last week of the regular season, when you must already be top six. Is the streaming cost of that week priced into an early pick?
