An early-down committee back in New England whose value depends on the share he holds in a split backfield.
August 2 10-team update
10-team ADP: 71.8; projection: 181.7 points; model risk: high. He is planned for limited-practice workload and available with monitoring; no diagnosis is supplied. Keep role and health conditional until workload reporting is specific. Status source. This block supersedes earlier numeric, risk, and turn language.
The role
He runs on first and second down and comes off the field on third, which is the situation where the ball gets thrown. A carry is a handoff; a catch is a completed throw to him, worth a full point in full PPR before a yard is gained (see Fantasy football glossary). The archetype's ceiling is capped by definition — he cannot score on the downs he is not out there for — and New England's file lists a second back with the same label, so he is one half of a split rather than the owner of a backfield.
The number
163 carries, from the frozen August 2 Data/players.csv note. That is projected volume, not a current workload report; the planned limited-practice status keeps both health and role under review.
The risk
His risk flag is high, and the driver is sitting next to him in the file: New England's other early-down committee back is projected for more carries and is priced several rounds earlier. A team's touches are a fixed budget, so every carry the coaching staff moves across the split comes straight out of this projection. And the file projects him for 17 games — a season he has not played in any of the last three (see Availability and injury risk).
The context
Historical context: New England selected him 120th overall in 2021 and he played 41 of 51 games from 2023–25. In 2025 he played 61.8% of snaps, with 130 carries and 32 catches. The 163-carry projection is not proof of a current role, particularly while his practice workload is managed.
These are historical usage and availability observations, not a current practice clearance.
Open questions
- Nothing in the CSV says which of the two New England backs the staff actually prefers; the split is an assumption inside the projection, not a reported decision.
- The archetype label and the catch total pull in opposite directions — a back who comes off on third down should not also be a meaningful receiver. One of the two is wrong.
