Late-round quarterback

With one QB slot and ten managers, the comparison is not QB points—it is the edge over QB10, the current replacement baseline.

With one QB slot and ten managers, the comparison is not QB points—it is the edge over QB10, the current replacement baseline.

The rule

In a one-QB, no-superflex league, ten quarterbacks start each week and viable alternatives remain available. Draft a quarterback early only when the freshly rendered board shows a meaningful advantage over QB10 that is larger than the RB/WR/TE value you would pass up. Otherwise wait for the latest remaining QB tier.

Rushing remains the useful tiebreaker: a quarterback with designed rushing adds a second path to points. It is not an automatic early-round warrant; passing quality, workload, health, and the price at the turn still decide it.

Apply it from 1.01

Your turns are 1 · 20/21 · 40/41 · 60/61 · 80/81 · 100/101 · 120/121 · 140/141 · 160. Eighteen players go between 1.01 and 20/21, so make a tier decision at the turn rather than trying to pre-commit to a specific quarterback.

The former named-quarterback, ADP, projection, availability, and pick-window prescriptions in this note came from the July 12-team data build and are retired. The August 2 2026 draft board and Tiers by position now supply the current 10-team comparison; refresh them within 48 hours of the confirmed draft time.

Why waiting still has limits

“Late” does not mean ignore the position until every usable starter is gone. Watch the draft room: once several managers have taken their QB1, the next tier can evaporate quickly. If a tier break is imminent at your turn and its edge over QB10 beats the alternatives, take it; if the room is still supplied, spend the pick on the scarcer RB/WR/TE value and wait.

The playoff race is top six of ten after Weeks 1–14, followed by Weeks 15–17. That favors a stable QB starter, but does not make a midrange QB premium worth paying without a measurable tier edge.
