August 2 10-team update
10-team ADP: 48.7; projection: 208.3 points; model risk: med. He is practicing after ankle-dislocation/fibula-fracture surgery, but the lead role is conditional until padded work validates it. Do not carry forward unqualified bell-cow certainty. Status source. This block supersedes earlier numeric, risk, and turn language.
The role
The model projects an every-down role, but that is not yet a reported coaching decision. He needs padded-work evidence for third-down and goal-line usage before he can be treated as a three-down bell cow rather than an early-down committee back. Because this league counts every reception as a full point before a yard is gained, that distinction materially changes the projection.
The number
275 carries. A carry is one running play handed to him (Fantasy football glossary). The frozen August 2 model still contains that projection, but it is not a current workload report. Until padded work validates third-down and goal-line usage, read it as an upside scenario rather than evidence that he is already a bell cow.
The risk
His risk column reads med. He is practicing after ankle-dislocation/fibula-fracture surgery, but current status makes both health and role conditional until padded work. Dylan Sampson is a real committee competitor, so neither a 17-game workload nor an every-down role should be treated as established.
The context
Historical context: Cleveland took him 36th overall in 2025. In his one prior season he played 14 games, with 230 carries and 36 targets on 50.5% of offensive snaps. The model extends that per-game rate, but the current post-surgery gate and committee evidence mean it is not a settled 2026 role.
These are historical 2025 observations, not current health or depth-chart evidence.
Open questions
- Does the third-down work actually stay his, or does Cleveland split it and quietly turn him into a committee back? That single decision is most of the gap between his archetype and the tier below.
- His bye falls in week 11, the crunch week when six teams are off — see Bye-week planning.
