2026-27 projection

- Role: primary backup center in the base case.
- 9-cat: 150-220, heavily dependent on center scarcity and blocks.
- Points: top 170-230.
- Dynasty: 220-300; Hashtag expert No. 256.
Role case
Kornet averaged 6.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.0 block in 21.0 minutes while shooting 64.3% in 2025-26. His screening, interior efficiency and low 0.4 turnovers are clean fits, but Victor Wembanyama owns every important center minute. ESPN team stats, accessed 2026-07-18
The San Antonio Spurs projection assigns Kornet 14 minutes, with Tarris Reed Jr. receiving a small athletic-changeup role and Jayden Quaintance unavailable following knee surgery. Kornet is the safest handcuff today, not a standard-league standalone pick.
Ceiling and floor
- Ceiling: a Wembanyama absence creates a 24-minute top-100 streaming profile in rebounds, blocks and FG%.
- Floor: Reed wins the backup job and Kornet becomes matchup-dependent depth below 10 minutes.
- Best builds: punt-FT or FG%/blocks teams needing a short-term center.
- Dynasty: little insulation because the younger centers are development priorities.
Career record
Pre-NBA: Vanderbilt, four seasons (2013-17); senior year 13.2 PTS / 6.2 REB / 2.0 BLK in 35 starts, first-team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive; NCAA record 150 threes by a player 7-feet or taller and Vanderbilt's career blocks leader (210). Draft: undrafted (2017); signed one of the NBA's first two-way contracts with New York that July.

2024 NBA champion with Boston; signed a four-year, $41M deal with San Antonio on June 30, 2025.
Durability: Never a heavy-minutes player, but reliably available in his role years — 69, 63, 73 and 68 games across the last four seasons. The thin 2020-22 stretch (31 and 15 GP) was journeyman roster churn across five teams, not a health collapse.
Trajectory: The record splits cleanly into two careers: a stretch-five experiment who shot .378-.438 with 1.4 threes a game (2017-21), and the post-2022 Boston reinvention as a rim-running, screening backup center who abandoned the three entirely and has shot .643-.700 with a block per game since. 2025-26 in San Antonio was his largest role ever (21.0 MPG, 25 starts). In 2026-27 he defends the backup-center job against Tarris Reed Jr. behind Wembanyama; the record says his 14-minute floor is bankable FG%, rebounds and blocks, and he becomes genuinely fantasy-relevant only during a Wembanyama absence, when the 2025-26 line shows what 21-24 minutes of him produces.

Open questions
- Can Kornet hold off Reed for all conventional backup-center minutes?
- Will San Antonio use occasional Wembanyama-at-four lineups that create two-center minutes?
