Keldon Johnson

Keldon Johnson remains San Antonio's most reliable bench scorer, but the deepest forward room of his career compresses him into a specialist role.

Role case

Johnson averaged 13.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in 23.3 minutes while shooting 51.9% in all 82 games in 2025-26. The combination of downhill scoring, rebounding and availability helped him win Sixth Man of the Year, but his 0.7 combined steals and blocks and 1.4 assists limited category value. The award does not guarantee the same workload. Tobias Harris adds a natural power forward, Julian Champagnie earned a new contract and keeps the starting four, and Carter Bryant closed last season at 15.3 minutes with public analysis expecting him to press for Johnson's wing minutes early. The San Antonio Spurs model consequently trims Johnson from 23.3 to 16 minutes without removing his sixth-man scoring function.

Johnson is also the roster's most tradeable contract: $18M expiring, extension-eligible all season, with scouts skeptical he signs long-term after San Antonio committed three years and $45M to Champagnie and two years and $30.8M to Harris. A trade out is the single largest identifiable minutes swing on the roster, and it points at Bryant. Hoops Rumors, 2026-07

Correction 2026-07-18: trimmed from 18.0 to 16.0 minutes. The prior number predated the correction seating Champagnie as the starting four and raising Bryant off his second-half rookie rates; Johnson is the player those minutes come from.

Durability: One of the most dependable bodies on the roster — six straight seasons of 63+ games, capped by all 82 in 2025-26; the 17-game rookie year was a G League assignment followed by a bubble call-up, not injury. Trajectory: The record is a full arc: bubble revelation, three years as a 15-22-point featured scorer on bad teams (peak 22.0 PPG in 2022-23), then a deliberate recasting as a bench scorer as the roster improved — usage down, efficiency up every year since (.452 → .482 → .519), culminating in 2025-26 Sixth Man of the Year. The fantasy problem has never changed: career 0.7 steals and 0.2 blocks with sub-2 assists means he only pays at scoring volume. In 2026-27 he competes to keep the fixed sixth-man role against Bryant's ascent and the Harris signing, on an $18M expiring that makes him the roster's most likely trade. He becomes fantasy-relevant if a trade or forward injury restores about 25 minutes, where 14-and-6 with strong FG% plays in points leagues immediately.
