Bilal Coulibaly

Bilal Coulibaly is a defensive-stat specialist with real per-minute appeal, but Dybantsa and Washington's crowded wing room project him into a smaller bench role.

Career record

Pre-NBA: no college. Coulibaly is French, born July 26, 2004, and came up entirely at Metropolitans 92 (Boulogne-Levallois). He entered their LNB Espoirs under-21 program in 2021 and dominated it in 2022-23, averaging 21.9 points, 2.6 steals and 1.2 blocks, which earned a midseason promotion to the senior side. His only senior professional season was that same 2022-23 campaign in LNB Pro A: 27 games, 5.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.2 blocks on .532 from the field, .452 from three and .595 from the line. Those are small-sample role-player numbers on a title-contending team led by Victor Wembanyama, and the draft case was built on the Espoirs production, the playoff-run flashes and the physical profile rather than on senior volume. Some sources report a combined all-competitions line of roughly 53 games and 10.9 points for 2022-23; I could not verify that aggregate and do not rely on it. He has since won an Olympic silver medal with France in 2024 and played at the 2022 FIBA U18 European Championship. Draft: 2023, first round, 7th overall, by Indiana — traded on draft night to Washington for the draft rights to Jarace Walker and two future second-round picks. He signed with the Wizards on July 2, 2023.

He started 15 games as a rookie, then all 59 in 2024-25 and all 56 in 2025-26. Three-point percentage by season: .346, .281, .319. No All-Rookie honors.

Fantasy history: season-end 9-category ranks are not publicly verifiable for any of his three seasons and none is estimated here. The category shape is stable and readable. All three years are the same asset — a wing who produces combined stocks well above his positional baseline (1.7, 2.0 and 2.3 per game) while contributing almost nothing in the two categories that decide standard-league drafts, scoring efficiency and three-point volume. 2024-25 was his most valuable season in raw terms because 33 minutes carried 12.3 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists, but it also carried 2.1 turnovers and .281 from three, and that combination cancels much of the counting-stat gain in 9-cat. 2025-26 was arguably the better fantasy season per minute despite fewer of them: the turnovers fell by a third, the block rate rose to a full one per game, and the three-point percentage recovered 38 points. Points-league value is worse than category value throughout, because steals and blocks are underweighted there and he has never had the scoring volume to compensate.

Durability: GP by season — 63, 59, 56, a slow downward drift with no single catastrophic injury. 2023-24 cost him games to a knee issue in November 2023, back in early February, pelvis in late February and a wrist in mid-March. 2024-25 was a head injury in November 2024, groin around Christmas, illness on New Year's Day, knee in late February and a hamstring in March. 2025-26 is the concerning one because it starts before the season did: he had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb, announced September 12, 2025. He then missed time for a leg issue in early November, an oblique in early December, an ankle before Christmas, back trouble in mid-January and early February, and finally a heel problem that first appears on February 10 and recurs on eight separate dates through March and April 2026. That heel is the single most important item in his file — it is the injury that ended his season's rhythm, and it is the one the RotoWire July report on his France appearance speaks to.

Trajectory: The apparent leap is 2024-25, and it is mostly minutes. He went from 27.2 to 33.0 and from 15 starts to 59, and the per-36 scoring moved only from 11.1 to 13.4 while the field-goal percentage fell and the three-point stroke collapsed to .281 — that is expanded role absorbing a fixed skill level, not improvement. The genuine development shows up in 2025-26, and it is easy to miss because the raw line went down: on seven fewer minutes he nearly matched the scoring, cut turnovers from 2.1 to 1.4, raised blocks to 1.0 and held a 1.3 steal rate, which is a real per-minute gain across four categories at once. That is a 21-year-old getting more efficient rather than getting more usage, which is the better signal at this stage. The problem is that the jumper still has not arrived — .346, .281, .319 across three seasons is not a trajectory, it is noise around a below-average mean — and without it Washington has no reason to prioritize him now that Dybantsa is the organizational wing. He is young enough that the aging curve is entirely ahead of him and a two-way starter outcome remains live for dynasty purposes, but for 2026-27 the redraft case rests on stocks per minute in a reduced role, with the thumb-and-heel history arguing against betting on a full season.
