Cody Williams

Cody Williams remains a development bet, but Utah's veteran additions and his poor three-point shooting leave no secure 2026-27 fantasy role.

Fantasy thesis

The size and defensive-development case persists, but Peterson, Bailey, Markkanen, Sensabaugh, Okogie, and Mykhailiuk all have clearer present-day wing skills. Utah exercised Williams' 2026-27 rookie-scale option in October 2025. KSL Sports, 2025-10-31

Ceiling: improved shooting earns 20 minutes and steals-based deep-league value. Floor: inconsistent spacing and an end-of-bench role produce no fantasy relevance.

Career record

Pre-NBA: One season at Colorado (2023-24): 11.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.7 blocks in 28.4 minutes across 24 games, on .552 from the field, .415 from three and .714 from the line. He was a McDonald's All-American and Jordan Brand Classic and Nike Hoop Summit selection out of Perry High School in 2023, where he won two state titles. Born November 20, 2004; his older brother is Jalen Williams of Oklahoma City. Draft: 2024, first round, 10th overall, Utah. Utah exercised his 2026-27 rookie-scale option in October 2025.

Durability: 50 of 82 as a rookie and 67 of 82 in year two. He has been on the floor for real minutes both seasons — 21.2 then 24.3 — so the limiting factor has been production, not availability.

Trajectory: The two-year arc is more encouraging than the headline suggests. His field goal percentage went from .323 to .468 and his scoring nearly doubled, but the mechanism was retreat: threes fell from 0.7 to 0.4 a game at .214, so the efficiency gain came from taking fewer of the shots he cannot make. The .415 he shot at Colorado on a 24-game sample is the only evidence the jumper exists. He is a 21-year-old former top-ten pick with size and 24 minutes of NBA experience per night, which is why the development case survives, but Peterson, Bailey, Markkanen, Sensabaugh, Okogie and Mykhailiuk all have clearer present-day wing skills. He becomes fantasy-relevant if the three-point percentage climbs into the mid-30s and holds 20-plus minutes, at which point the steals and secondary assists make him a deep-league add; absent that, veteran competition in a Play-In chase pushes him out of the healthy-night rotation.
