Ja'Kobe Walter

Ja'Kobe Walter has the safest reserve-wing floor in Toronto because his point-of-attack defense can keep him on court even when the shot is quiet.

Baseline and projection

Walter played 72 games with 19 starts in 2025-26, averaging 20.5 minutes, 7.5 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 steal, 0.2 blocks, 1.5 threes and only 0.5 turnovers on .446/.789 shooting. Basketball-Reference, accessed 2026-07-18

Correction 2026-07-18: raised from 19.0 MPG to 22.0 as part of a team-wide rebalancing of the Toronto minute model, which had left 2,732 season-minutes assigned to nobody. Walter's healthy-night allocation is unchanged at 19; the season figure sits above it because he is the first wing to absorb Barrett's and Ingram's absences, and Barrett has played 58, 58 and 57 games in three straight seasons.

Fantasy value

Walter is more likely to gain minutes from a Leonard completion than lose them: Dick leaves, while Walter supplies guard defense that Toronto's large forwards do not. The public depth-chart discussion consistently placed him in the playoff defensive unit, but that is fan sentiment, not coach confirmation. Raptors depth-chart discussion, 2026-06-30

Eighteen starts as a rookie, nineteen in year two — Toronto has used him as a starter-adjacent reserve rather than a developmental project.

Durability: 52 then 72 games. The rookie shortfall was a right AC joint sprain suffered in informal workouts before training camp, which cost him camp and the first five games, then recurred at least once during the season. The 72-game second year with no reported significant absence is the more useful signal.

Trajectory: Two seasons of near-identical minutes with the shape of the production improving underneath. Points fell from 8.6 to 7.5, but field-goal percentage rose from .405 to .446, three-point percentage from .349 to .409, threes from 1.3 to 1.5, steals from 0.8 to 1.0, and turnovers halved from 1.0 to 0.5. That is a wing converting volume into efficiency and defense — a real 3-and-D trajectory at age 21, not a plateau. He is competing for the first reserve wing role, and the point-of-attack defense is what keeps him on court when the shot is not falling. He becomes fantasy-relevant at roughly 26 minutes, which arrives if Gradey Dick is moved in a Leonard deal or if RJ Barrett repeats his 58/58/57-game pattern; at that volume the threes-plus-steals-minus-turnovers profile is deep-league draftable.
