Role and evidence
Maluach's rookie year produced 3.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks in 8.9 minutes across 46 games, with .533 FG and .710 FT. The block rate remained the fantasy hook; the offensive role was almost entirely finishing. Source: Hashtag Basketball, updated 2026-07-02. Confidence: medium-high.
The Suns acquired his draft rights in the 2025 seven-team deal that sent Kevin Durant to Houston. Phoenix then re-signed Mark Williams and retained Oso Ighodaro, so the second-year jump is not automatic. Source: Suns transaction release, 2025-07-06. Confidence: high.
Maluach had 15 points, 15 rebounds, and two blocks in a July Summer League game and 18 points, 14 rebounds, and two blocks in the April 12 NBA finale. Both show the per-minute rebounding/block ceiling, but neither proves an everyday three-center rotation. Sources: NBA Summer League recap, 2026-07-13, official NBA gamebook, 2026-04-12. Confidence: high on samples, low on role translation.
Update 2026-07-19: his full Vegas line settled at 19.5 points and 12.8 rebounds across four games, and he framed his own development priorities as "rebounding, playing defense" plus added strength rather than extending to the three-point line. That is the strongest sustained-dominance sample he has produced and directly feeds the "can he overtake Ighodaro" question, but it is Summer League competition and does not change the five-minute healthy base by itself. HoopsRumors Suns Notes, 2026-07-19 Confidence: high on the sample, unchanged on role.
Category shape
- Wins: Blocks, rebounds, FG%.
- Neutral: FT% has been playable at very low volume.
- Costs: No threes, almost no assists or steals, uncertain minutes.
- Build fit: Deep dynasty and center-premium formats; conditional stream in block matchups.
Points and dynasty outlook
Hashtag's July dynasty board ranked Maluach No. 154. That valuation is driven by age, draft capital, and rim-protection ceiling rather than a 2026-27 redraft role. Source: Hashtag dynasty rankings, updated 2026-07-02. Confidence: medium-low.
Floor, base, ceiling
- Floor: Mostly non-rotation development minutes while Williams and Ighodaro are available.
- Base: 42 appearances at five minutes, with occasional block-streaming bursts.
- Ceiling: Williams misses time and Maluach reaches 18 minutes, six rebounds, and 1.5 blocks; category relevance follows quickly.
Draft verdict
Maluach belongs on dynasty benches, not ordinary redraft rosters. His stat profile is fantasy-friendly if minutes arrive, but the base schedule is sparse and volatile. Watch whether Phoenix uses him ahead of Ighodaro when Williams rests.
Career record
Pre-NBA: South Sudanese center (born September 2006) developed at NBA Academy Africa; played for South Sudan at the 2024 Paris Olympics at 17. One season at Duke, 2024-25 — 39 GP (all starts), 8.6 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 1.3 BPG in 21.3 MPG on .712 FG% (136-of-191, third-best single season in Duke history) during a Final Four run. Draft: 2025, Round 1, Pick 10 — selected by Houston, rights traded to Phoenix in the seven-team Kevin Durant deal (July 6, 2025).

Durability: No injury flags — the 46 rookie appearances were a coach's-decision count behind Williams and Ighodaro, not a health record. Trajectory: The record is one elite-efficiency college season and a rookie year of scraps in which the per-minute profile stayed intact: roughly 12 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per 36 minutes with playable FT% for a young seven-footer. The 18/14 season finale and the 19.5/12.8 July Vegas line show what volume does for him; nothing yet shows he can hold a rotation spot against NBA starters. In 2026-27, at 20, he competes with Ighodaro for the backup-center minutes behind Mark Williams. He becomes fantasy-relevant the week Williams misses time and Phoenix gives him 18+ minutes — blocks, boards and FG% arrive almost immediately at that workload — and until then he is a dynasty stash, not a redraft pick.
