Mohamed Diawara

Mohamed Diawara is New York's clearest young forward development bet, but his median remains a low-minute reserve line until shooting and decision-making force a larger role.

Team: New York Knicks · Status: standard contract · Position: SF/PF · Season age: 21 · Experience: entering second NBA season · Role: reserve forward · As of: 2026-07-18

His healthy neutral allocation is six minutes, while the 10 projected MPG reflects appearances concentrated in games missing a starter or decided early. Nine-cat: outside top 300. Points: D. Dynasty: 5.6/10.

Role and evidence

Diawara appeared in 69 games, made seven starts, and averaged 3.6 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 9.2 minutes as a rookie (official Knicks player page). He agreed to a reported four-year, $11.2M contract in July, also recorded on that page and in the NBA options roundup. That is a materially firmer commitment than Dadiet's rookie-scale deal with team options, and it is the main reason the ordering question is not settled purely on Summer League evidence.

He is the only contracted young reserve with real 3/4 size ahead of Dadiet, which is the structural case for him getting the first look at Anunoby/Hart replacement minutes.

The most recent observable data cuts the other way, and the desk previously reported only the injury half of it. Across two Las Vegas games in a designated on-ball role, Diawara averaged 3.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in 24.7 minutes while shooting 7.1% from the field and 10.0% from three; in one of them he went 1-for-9 with the Knicks outscored by 39 points in his 23 minutes. Multiple outlets named him among the summer's biggest Knicks disappointments (SI, Daily Knicks). The mitigating case is real and should be stated alongside it: two games is a trivial sample, and he was running pick-and-roll and initiating offense, which is not the role he will be asked to play behind Anunoby and Hart (Posting and Toasting). New York re-signed him to a reported four years and $11.2M, so the organisation's own commitment is unchanged.

Diawara then missed the final three Las Vegas games with a left ring finger issue whose severity remained unknown July 18 (official Knicks player news). No long-term diagnosis should be inferred.

Correction 2026-07-18: the reserve-forward ordering over Dadiet is downgraded from "clearest path" to genuinely contested, and the FG% projection cut from .455 to .440. The prior version cited the July Summer League only for the finger injury while omitting the shooting line that preceded it, and leaned on structure over the most recent observable data without acknowledging the conflict. Confidence in the ordering drops from medium to low-medium.

Role branches

Market and confidence

Role ordering over Dadiet is low-medium and genuinely contested after Las Vegas, exact minutes low, physical/defensive translation medium, and shooting rates low-medium. His dynasty score reflects opportunity and age, not current rank liquidity.

Career record

Pre-NBA: Paris Basketball youth system (first-division debut 2021-22, sparse minutes; loaned to second-division Poitiers in December 2023), then Cholet Basket 2024-25: 27 LNB Élite games, 5.8 PTS, 3.1 REB, 1.4 AST in 19.6 MPG on .383/.310, plus 16 FIBA Europe Cup games at 6.8 PTS on .517 FG. Draft: 2025, Round 2, Pick 51, LA Clippers (traded to New York for Kobe Sanders).

Season Age Team GP MPG PTS REB AST STL BLK 3PM FG% FT% TO
2025-26 20 NYK 69 9.2 3.6 1.4 0.8 0.2 0.1 0.7 .423 .750 0.4

One NBA season; the rookie row above is the career record. He made 7 starts and shot .369 from three on the title-winning Knicks.

Durability: 69 appearances as a rookie, no NBA injury absences of note; the July 2026 left ring finger issue from Summer League is the only open flag.

Trajectory: The record is thin but directionally decent: a low-usage French forward who couldn't crack .40 FG at Cholet arrived in New York and hit .423/.369 in garbage-and-spot minutes at age 20, which is the specific skill (corner shooting at 3/4 size) his path requires. In 2026-27 he competes with Pacôme Dadiet for the first reserve-forward look behind Anunoby and Hart. He becomes fantasy-relevant only if that shooting holds at 18+ minutes — a deep-dynasty stash until a starter's absence tests it; the disastrous two-game on-ball Summer League audition is noise relative to the role he'd actually fill.
