Landry Shamet

Landry Shamet's four-year commitment establishes him as New York's preferred movement shooter, but his low rebounds, assists, and stocks leave threes as the only dependable fantasy category.

Correction 2026-07-18: MPG raised from 14.0 to 20.0 and FT% cut from .790 to .760. The 14.0 line understated a player who logged 23.0 MPG in 2025-26 and whose four-year, $24M contract — structured long-and-cheap to keep New York under the second apron — is, per ESPN's offseason grades, likely the reason Mitchell Robinson signed with Boston. ESPN grades the deal B+ and cites a five-out unit with Shamet in Hart's place that outscored opponents by 54 points in 34 playoff minutes. The FT% change corrects an unstated assumption: Shamet shot .711 from the line in 2025-26, and the prior projection quietly assumed a full snap-back to career norms.

Role and evidence

Shamet averaged 9.3 points, 2.0 threes, 1.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.6 steals, and only 0.6 turnovers in 23.0 minutes across 51 games in 2025-26, shooting .437 from the field (Hashtag Basketball). New York brought him back on a reported four-year contract (NBA.com, July 6).

His spacing matters more to the Knicks than his fantasy box score. McBride supplies better defense and Clarkson more self-creation, but the five-out lineup argument gives Shamet a structural claim neither has: with Robinson gone and Towns sliding to the five, the shooting need is now a nightly design feature rather than a matchup wrinkle. ESPN projects him as a sixth man, not a starter, so Bridges' role is not in dispute.

Market and confidence

Hashtag ranked Shamet 349th in analyst dynasty. Contract status is high confidence; minutes are low-medium; three-point rate and low turnovers are high; all other category contributions are low.

Career record

Pre-NBA: Wichita State 2015-18 (redshirted 2015-16 with a foot injury); MVC Freshman of the Year and first-team All-MVC in 2016-17, then 14.9 PTS and 5.2 AST with first-team All-AAC honors in 2017-18. Draft: 2018, Round 1, Pick 26, Philadelphia.

Durability: Has not topped 69 games since his 79-game rookie year, and only 40-53 in each of the last six seasons: foot history dating to college, a dislocated shoulder in October 2024 preseason (delayed his 2024-25 debut), and a sprained right shoulder in November 2025 that cost him a month-plus. The injury pattern, not the shooting, is why the 61-game projection is conservative.

Trajectory: Eight seasons of essentially one skill delivered reliably: about two threes a game on an 81.5% career FT line, with career-low rebounds, assists, and stocks for his minutes. His 2025-26 (9.3 PTS, 2.0 3PM in 23 minutes) was his best per-game season since Brooklyn. In 2026-27 he is the Knicks' designated movement shooter off the bench, structurally protected by the five-out lineup logic. He becomes fantasy-relevant only as a threes streamer when he holds 20-plus minutes and full health simultaneously — something he has managed roughly half a season at a time since 2021.
