Jack Kayil

Jack Kayil is New York's highest-upside young guard because he already created against professionals, but shooting efficiency, turnovers, contract status, and an overcrowded backcourt make 2026-27 mostly a dynasty-development year.

Team rights: New York Knicks · Status: unsigned second-round rights · Position: PG/SG · Season age: 20 · Experience: rookie · Role: conditional development guard · As of: 2026-07-18

This line is conditional on an NBA or two-way contract; Kayil has zero neutral healthy-rotation minutes. Nine-cat: outside top 350. Points: E. Dynasty: 5.4/10, the strongest young-guard ceiling on the roster but with low near-term liquidity.

Prospect evidence

Houston selected Kayil 39th and sent his rights to New York. The official NBA draft profile says he averaged 12.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 21.1 minutes for Alba Berlin on 40%/34%/77% shooting, then won Bundesliga and FIBA Champions League Best Young Player honors. Size, pace manipulation, passing, and physicality are the attraction; inconsistent shooting and turnovers widen the fantasy translation.

Kayil scored 19 points in a Summer League win over Detroit (NBA.com, July 13) after a 12-point, five-rebound, three-assist, two-steal game against San Antonio (NBA.com, July 11). Summer League earns little statistical weight but confirms New York tested him on-ball.

Market and confidence

Long-term playmaking confidence is medium; shooting and turnovers low-medium; 2026-27 contract, games, and minutes low. Dynasty managers should value the development curve separately from current-year projections.

Career record

Pre-NBA: Alba Berlin academy product who signed with SC Rasta Vechta in 2023, spent 2024-25 with Mega Basket in the ABA League (18 games, 7.7 PTS, 2.2 REB, 2.2 AST), then returned to Alba Berlin for 2025-26: 12.3 PTS, 2.7 REB, 3.5 AST in 21.1 minutes on .400/.340/.770 (Tankathon's all-competitions aggregate reads 65 games, 12.2/3.0/3.6 on .377/.292/.785). Bundesliga Best Young Player — joining Franz Wagner and Dennis Schröder among its youngest winners — plus FIBA Champions League Best Young Player. German youth national team: U16 EuroBasket gold (2022), U18 bronze (2023), U18 gold (2024), and 11.1 PTS / 3.6 REB / 6.6 AST at the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup silver run. Draft: 2026, Round 2, Pick 39 (selected by Houston, rights sent to New York).

No NBA record — his most recent competitive season is 2025-26 with Alba Berlin, followed by July 2026 Summer League with New York (19 points vs Detroit July 13; 12-5-3 with two steals vs San Antonio July 11). He remains on unsigned second-round rights.

Durability: No injury history of note across three professional seasons; the 65-game 2025-26 all-competitions load is a durability positive at 19.

Trajectory: The record shows a teenage lead guard who produced against grown professionals in two leagues and kept winning best-young-player hardware, with a shaky three-point shot (.292-.340 depending on competition) as the recurring flaw. In 2026-27 he competes first for a contract — NBA, two-way, or draft-and-stash — and only then for developmental guard minutes behind New York's veterans. He becomes fantasy-relevant only in dynasty formats unless he signs an NBA deal and injuries force him into on-ball minutes, where assists would arrive before points.
