Snapshot
- Role: projected 19-minute scoring wing; possible spot starter when Minnesota wants Dosunmu to lead the bench.
- 2025-26 baseline: 43 games at 12.5 MPG for 5.6 PTS. He could not hold a rotation spot on a deeper roster under the same coach, which is the number every projection of him has to start from.
- Opportunity: DiVincenzo is unavailable and the roster has only 13 standard contracts. Minnesota has also been reported to be weighing Shannon and Josh Green as power-forward-sized lineup answers, which is a different and less certain role than bench scoring wing.
- Market: Hashtag's July keeper crowd ranked him 510th, showing that dynasty managers still discount his non-scoring categories.
2026-27 projection
| GP | MPG | FG% | FT% | 3PM | PTS | REB | AST | STL | BLK | TO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 68 | 19 | .470 | .790 | 1.1 | 8.2 | 2.2 | 1.2 | 0.5 | 0.2 | 0.9 |
Correction 2026-07-18 The previous card read 70 GP / 22 MPG / 9.4 PTS. Against a 2025-26 baseline of 43 games at 12.5 minutes (ESPN), that was a 76% minutes increase and a 63% games increase β a large bet on opportunity that the team desk was making without ever disclosing the baseline it was betting against. Centred at 19 minutes and 68 games. DiVincenzo's absence is real and does clear a lane, but Shannon has twice failed to hold a rotation spot under this coach, and any veteran wing or power forward signed into Minnesota's two open standard slots takes the lane back.
Fantasy translation
- Nine-category: 140-200; waiver watch in standard leagues.
- Points: 130-180 because his shot volume translates more cleanly than his category profile.
- Dynasty: 225+ unless the role expands beyond 25 minutes.
Role, floor and ceiling
Floor: 12-14 minutes as an athletic bench scorer behind Edwards, Dosunmu, and Green β essentially a repeat of 2025-26 β if Minnesota fills either open roster slot with a wing. Ceiling: 28-plus minutes, 13-15 points, and top-120 points-league value if his threes or defensive activity improve. Scoring alone will not create a strong nine-category return.
Risk monitor
Shannon's early role is linked to DiVincenzo's rehab and Minnesota's two open standard slots. A veteran wing signing or a faster DiVincenzo return would reduce his minutes. Conversely, Ball or Edwards absences would increase his shot volume more than his playmaking.

Texas Tech: 9.8 points and 4.1 rebounds on .470/.257/.829 as a freshman across 29 games; 12.9 and 4.0 on .448/.357/.756 across 28 games as a sophomore; 10.4 and 2.6 on .455/.384/.784 across 26 games as a junior. He transferred to Illinois and jumped immediately: 17.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists on .442/.321/.790 in 31 games, then 23.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists on .475/.362/.801 in 32 games as a fifth-year senior. He also appeared in nine games of the 2026 playoffs with three starts, averaging 11.8 points β roughly double his regular-season scoring, on a materially larger role. That is the single most important line in his professional record so far and it is not in the regular-season table.
Fantasy history: 2024-25: unrostered in any standard format; 10.6 minutes and a 4.3-point line produce no category value. 2025-26: same, and the 43 games make even streaming impractical. Season-end 9-cat ranks for either year were not locatable and are not worth estimating β both seasons are comfortably outside the top 250 in any format. The points-league shape is modestly better than the category shape because his production is concentrated in scoring and free throws while he contributes essentially nothing in steals, blocks, assists or rebounds; his 2025-26 blocks figure rounds to 0.0. Hashtag's July 2026 keeper crowd at 510th is a reasonable reflection of that record.
Durability: GP by season β 32 of 82 in 2024-25, 43 of 82 in 2025-26. The 2024-25 absences were overwhelmingly coach's decisions and G League assignments to the Iowa Wolves rather than injury; he was a 27th pick on a contending roster. The 2025-26 absences were injury and they were serious. He missed nine games in November 2025 with a left foot fifth metatarsal bone bruise, returned, then left a game against Denver in late December with left foot soreness; an MRI at the Mayo Clinic diagnosed a left foot abductor hallucis strain that cost him roughly 24 consecutive games into February 2026. Two separate left-foot injuries in one season on a player whose entire value proposition is athleticism is the most important negative in this file. For completeness, his 2023-24 Illinois season also included a non-injury absence of about six games from a suspension that was lifted by court order, and he was acquitted in June 2024.
Trajectory: The college arc was a genuine late bloom β three ordinary Texas Tech seasons, then a transfer that produced 17.2 and then 23.0 points per game and an All-America selection at 23. That is unusual and it is why Minnesota spent a first-round pick on a player who would be 24 as a rookie. The NBA record so far shows almost none of it: two seasons, 75 games, 11.7 minutes, and a per-minute scoring rate that is fine without any secondary category to support it. He is not a young player developing on schedule β he turns 26 in July 2026 and is already past the age at which most wings have settled into their role β so the 2026-27 case does not rest on improvement, it rests on opportunity. The 2026 playoff run is the one piece of evidence that he can hold a real role when handed one: 11.8 points across nine games with three starts is the first NBA sample where his usage resembled his college usage. Against that, the twin foot injuries and a career three-point rate that has never established itself at NBA volume are the reasons the projection card sits at 22 minutes rather than 28. For fantasy purposes he remains a scoring-only profile in a format that pays for everything else, and DiVincenzo's health is a larger input to his value than anything Shannon himself controls.
