Why this shape
- The official re-signing report confirms Miami values the shooting after a 37.5% three-point season.
- Wiggins, Larsson and Hardaway sit ahead of him on the wing; Portis and Jović compete for stretch-forward minutes.
- Giannis/Bam lineups need shooting, so Fontecchio will have situational utility even if the all-healthy median is only ten minutes.
- His fantasy ceiling is almost entirely minutes-driven because rebounds, assists and stocks remain light.
Format outlook
- Nine-category: threes streamer in 16-team leagues; not a standard 12-team draft target.
- Points: waiver-only barring multiple wing injuries.
- Dynasty: no material premium; short contract and role-player profile.
- Special formats: more useful in leagues rewarding three-point efficiency or using very deep active rosters.
Range and watchpoints
- Ceiling: 20 MPG and about two threes per game if Wiggins/Hardaway miss time or Miami needs maximum spacing.
- Median: matchup shooter outside the main eight-man group.
- Floor: periodic DNP-CDs after further roster additions.
- Role trigger: Conwell's readiness is the main internal variable; another shooting wing would squeeze both.

Career record
Pre-NBA: Ten professional seasons in Europe before he ever reached the NBA. He debuted with Virtus Bologna in Italy's Lega Basket Serie A in 2012-13, then signed with Olimpia Milano in 2016 — a EuroLeague club where he barely played, averaging under a minute in EuroLeague and 2.8 minutes in Serie A during 2018-19. He rebuilt his value in smaller roles at Reggio Emilia (LBA, 2019-20) and Alba Berlin (German BBL, 2020-21) before a 2021 move to Baskonia gave him a starting job in both the Spanish ACB and the EuroLeague. That 2021-22 Baskonia season is the one that got him signed: 10.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists on 40% from three across 29 EuroLeague games, and 11.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 26.5 minutes over 31 ACB games. Draft: undrafted; signed with Utah as a free agent in July 2022 at age 26.

Durability: Not the issue. The two sub-60 seasons were role-driven rather than injury-driven — 52 games as a rookie behind Utah's rotation, and 2023-24 split 50/16 across the February trade to Detroit. He has played 75 and 70 games the last two years.
Trajectory: A late-blooming specialist whose NBA value has always tracked minutes almost linearly. The one stretch where he got a real role — 16 games in Detroit after the 2024 trade deadline, 30.3 minutes a night — he put up 15.4 points and 2.7 threes on 47.9% shooting, which remains the proof of concept and also the reason not to over-read it at 16 games. Detroit then shrank him back to 16.5 minutes the following season, and Miami used him the same way in 2025-26, though more productively: his 37.5% from three and 84.3% at the line are the two categories he actually wins. Everything else is thin — 0.1 blocks, 0.5 steals, and rebounding that comes from size rather than pursuit. He re-signed with Miami on a one-year deal and sits behind Andrew Wiggins, Pelle Larsson and Tim Hardaway Jr. on the wing, with Bobby Portis and Nikola Jović taking stretch-four minutes. He becomes a usable threes streamer if two of those wings miss time simultaneously, or if Miami commits to maximum spacing around Giannis-Bam lineups and pushes him past 20 minutes. At the projected ten minutes he is not rosterable in 12-team formats.

Open questions
- Is ten minutes too conservative once Miami begins deliberately staggering Giannis and Bam with shooters?
- Can Fontecchio defend well enough to stay in postseason-style rotations?
- Does Ryan Conwell pass him in camp?
