Why this shape
- The four-year extension shows organizational investment, but contract dollars do not create a clean role behind Giannis/Bam/Portis.
- Jović told the Miami Herald that shifting among center, forward and ballhandling duties made the 2025-26 free-flow offense difficult for him; that contextualizes, but does not erase, the severe efficiency decline.
- Back management and an April ankle sprain interrupted an already reduced role. The median assumes recovery but not an instant return to 2024-25 form.
- His best path in Miami is winning the non-Giannis playmaking-forward minutes while shooting well enough to coexist with Bam. That path is narrow, and it may not be the path he takes — see below.
- He is being actively shopped. League sources told Yahoo Sports that Miami has shopped Jović to cut salary, and SI's June 29 offseason roundup frames the extension as a contract the front office wants off the books. This is reported activity, not speculation. Structurally it is also the obvious move: Miami is hard-capped at the first apron and needs room for both a signing and a 14th body, and Jović is the roster's most movable salary. Reporting is equally clear that no deal is close — Miami would likely need to attach draft capital, and the team sounds willing to keep developing him if nothing materialises.
Format outlook
- Nine-category: not draftable in ordinary redraft; monitor only if the role clears 18 minutes.
- Points: waiver player unless injuries push him into the starting group.
- Dynasty: buy-low, and treat a trade as the bull case rather than the risk. Correction 2026-07-18: this previously read "buy-low only at a deep discount," which implicitly assumed he stays in Miami. Now that the shopping is reported rather than hypothetical (Yahoo Sports), the likeliest good outcome is a salary-dump landing spot with open frontcourt minutes — a 23-year-old multi-skilled forward on a guaranteed long-tail deal is exactly the profile a rebuilding team gives 24 minutes to. The deep discount is still warranted on the 2025-26 shooting collapse; it is no longer warranted on the roster block, because the roster block is the thing most likely to disappear.
- Best-case archetype: a secondary passing stretch four, not a high-block center.
Range and watchpoints
- Ceiling: regains 20–24 minutes, shoots near league average and produces about 10/5/3 with 1.5 threes.
- Median: fringe rotation forward at the projection above.
- Floor: outside the nightly rotation in Miami. Note that being moved is no longer the floor scenario — a trade out is the more likely route to minutes, and the projection above is a Miami-retention median.
- Health trigger: uninterrupted camp matters after back and ankle issues; do not price offseason national-team highlights like NBA role confirmation.

Career record
Pre-NBA: Serbian, developed at KK Sava and then Mega Basket, whose senior team plays in the Adriatic (ABA) League — the top regional competition in the former Yugoslavia and a standard NBA feeder. He appeared in four ABA games in 2020-21 (11.8 points, 5.5 rebounds in 24.7 minutes) and 25 in his draft year, 2021-22, averaging 11.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 27.8 minutes on .430/.360/.750. Named ABA League Top Prospect for 2021-22, two-time Junior ABA champion, Junior ABA MVP in 2021, and MVP of the 2021-22 Euroleague Next Generation Tournament at 29.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Draft: 2022, first round, 27th overall by Miami.

The three-point line tells the story: .229 as a rookie, then .399 and .371 in the two middle seasons, then a collapse to .269 in 2025-26. Starts by season: 8, 38, 10, 1. He signed a four-year, $62.4 million extension in October 2025 and then posted the worst efficiency of his career.
Durability: 15, 46, 46, 47 games — he has never cleared 47 in four seasons, and the 2025-26 total came with low-back management (he appears on Miami's March 27, 2026 injury report) and an April ankle sprain. The rookie-year 15 games reflected development assignment more than health, but the three-year plateau in the mid-40s is a real availability concern rather than noise.
Trajectory: The career peaked in 2024-25 at 10.7 points, 2.8 assists and 1.7 threes in 25 minutes, a credible passing stretch four, and then reversed hard — minutes down eight per game, shooting down nine points, turnovers up despite less usage. Miami extended him and is now reportedly shopping the same contract, which is the central fact for 2026-27: behind Giannis, Bam and Portis he has no path to the 20-plus minutes that made him useful. The condition for relevance is not an injury in Miami but a trade out of it, since a 23-year-old multi-skilled forward on a guaranteed deal is exactly what a rebuilding team hands 24 minutes to.

Open questions
- Is Jović fully healthy for camp after the back/ankle interruptions?
- Can he regain a credible three-point shot and settle into one role?
- Does Miami view the extension as a development commitment or matching salary in a future trade?
