Why this shape
- Miami's official conversion announcement cited four NBA starts at 11.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.75 steals, plus a strong Sioux Falls line. Those tiny samples prove utility, not a stable role.
- The same announcement highlights his rebounding and 44.9% G League three-point shooting, an appealing Heat-development profile.
- Wiggins, Larsson, Fontecchio and Jović all compete for his forward minutes, while Miami still has standard-roster openings.
- A low-minute base is the median of a binary distribution: Gardner can either win a useful energy role or lose the roster spot before opening night.
Format outlook
- Nine-category: no redraft value at five minutes; monitor as a steals/rebounds streamer if he reaches 18+.
- Points: waiver only after injuries.
- Dynasty: 30-team stash with no trade premium until the contract is fully secured.
- Summer/roster utility: more likely to earn real-life minutes through defense and rebounding than through usage.
Range and watchpoints
- Ceiling: survives camp, reaches 15–18 minutes and supplies roughly 7/5 with one steal and useful FG%.
- Median: active depth, spot starts and low-volume cameos.
- Floor: waived as Miami uses its remaining cap/roster flexibility.
- Contract risk: Basketball-Reference's Miami payroll is the public cross-check; precise guarantee dates should be re-verified when camp transactions begin.

Career record
Pre-NBA: Born May 21, 2001. A four-stop college path: Georgetown (Big East) in 2019-20, where he appeared in eight of the first nine games at 3.1 points before leaving; South Plains College (junior college) in 2020-21 at 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds; then two years at Little Rock (Ohio Valley Conference). As a senior in 2022-23 he averaged 13.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.2 steals in 30.8 minutes on 35.6% from three and 75.5% from the line, led the OVC with 15 double-doubles, and made second-team All-OVC. Draft: undrafted (2023). Spent two seasons with the Osceola Magic in the G League — 47 games at 5.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 15.4 minutes — with a brief Orlando training-camp signing in September 2024 that ended in a waiver eight days later. Miami signed him to a two-way on July 25, 2025.

Durability: One NBA season, 45 games. The games he missed were a function of two-way status and Sioux Falls assignments through mid-February rather than injury; there is no meaningful injury history on record yet.
Trajectory: A 25-year-old rookie whose one NBA season showed exactly the profile his G League and college work advertised — rebounding well above his position's rate for the minutes played, secondary passing, and a three-point shot that has quietly become real (40.6% on 0.6 makes in the NBA, 44.9% in the G League). The four-start stretch that triggered his February contract conversion produced 11.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.75 steals, which is the proof-of-concept and also the reason not to over-extrapolate: four games. Miami gave him a three-year, $5.5 million standard contract on February 18, 2026, so roster security is better than a typical deep-bench case. He is behind Wiggins, Larsson, Fontecchio and Jović for forward minutes. He becomes fantasy-relevant if two of those four miss time and he holds 18-plus minutes, at which point the rebounds, steals and efficient low-volume threes make him a streamer in deep category leagues.
