Player card
- Team/status: under contract. He signed a two-year, $4,776,614 deal on 26 February 2026; 2026-27 is the second year, reported at roughly $3.8 million and non-guaranteed. Spotrac's UFA flag refers to his status after 2026-27. ESPN, 2026-02-26 Β· Hoops Rumors, 2026-02
- Position: official roster label F-C.
- Age/experience: 41 during the season; entering NBA Year 18.
- Depth role: no base role. He counts against the 21-man standard-contract pool and, because the salary is non-guaranteed, he is the cheapest of the six cuts Memphis must make.
- 2025-26: 10 GP/1 start, 9.7 MPG; .462 FG, .875 FT, 0.3 3PM, 3.4 PTS, 2.7 REB, 0.6 AST, 0.2 STL, 0.1 BLK, 0.1 TO. ESPN stats, accessed 2026-07-18

Nine-category/points/dynasty: no draft value. Gibson matters only as roster arithmetic β the non-guaranteed salary is the mechanism by which Memphis opens a spot.
Range and risks
- Strengths: veteran rebounding, screening and defensive positioning.
- Liabilities: age, tiny role, no category volume and a non-guaranteed salary that makes him the first body released.
- Floor/base/ceiling: waived before opening night / rostered but out of the rotation / survives the cut and takes brief emergency minutes after multiple center injuries.
- Branches: even a full season on the roster would not move him ahead of Edey, Stewart or Post in a healthy lineup.
The July 9 roster-crunch report omits Gibson from its 20-standard-contract count, which is why he was previously filed here as an unresolved free agent. That was a counting error in the source, not a contract change: the February 2026 deal runs through 2026-27. Including him, the standard pool is 21 and Memphis must clear six, not five. Career record
Pre-NBA: Three seasons at USC (2006-07 through 2008-09), born June 24, 1985 and already 21 as a freshman. NBA All-Rookie First Team, 2010.
Durability: 1,012 games over seventeen seasons, with four 80-plus-game years and only two seasons under 45 games before the roster-driven decline. The dip from 2022-23 onward is not health β it is 49, 20, 37 and 10 games as a veteran end-of-bench body signed for the locker room and emergency frontcourt cover. The last time he had a defined rotation role was 2021-22 in New York.
Trajectory: A seventeen-year career built on one repeatable thing β post defense, screening and offensive-glass work at above-.500 shooting β that peaked as a starter in Chicago and Minnesota and has been ceremonial since 2023. He is 41 and under a non-guaranteed second year, which makes him the arithmetic answer to a Memphis roster crunch rather than a rotation candidate. Fantasy value is zero in every format and stays there under every branch: even if he survives the cut and Edey, Stewart and Post all miss time simultaneously, the resulting six-minute assignments would not produce a startable line in any category.
