Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope remains a low-turnover threes-and-steals veteran, but he is a leading Memphis exit candidate and receives no base team minutes until the roster is resolved.

Nine-category/points: no standard redraft value in the Memphis base; low-volume threes/steals streamer if he lands a 20-plus-minute role elsewhere. Dynasty: contender-only depth with little market insulation at 33.

Range and risks

July roster analysis treated Caldwell-Pope as one of the four clearest departures. That reported expectation is not an official transaction, so this dossier retains a conditional line rather than deleting him. Sports Illustrated / Memphis On SI, 2026-07-09

Two championships: the 2020 Lakers and the 2023 Nuggets, in both cases as the starting or primary perimeter defender.

Durability: Extraordinary for twelve years β€” 67 games or more in every season from 2013-14 through 2024-25, with four 80-plus seasons. That streak ended in 2025-26: he played 51 games and 14 starts, then had surgery to correct a misalignment of his right pinky finger and missed the final 29 games of the regular season. He was reported as expected to recover fully for 2026-27.

Trajectory: A thirteen-year specialist whose value was always defense, threes and free-throw shooting rather than usage, and the usage has been shrinking for four straight years β€” 13.2 points in Washington, then 10.8, 10.1, 8.7 and 8.4. The 2025-26 line shows the shooting finally cracking as well, with .410 from the field and 31.6% from three, his worst three-point rate since Detroit. The 91.3% free-throw mark and the jump to 2.7 assists are the only things trending up. He holds a reported $21.6 million player option for 2026-27, which is the whole story: the number is far above his market, so the interesting question is transactional rather than statistical. He becomes fantasy-relevant only if he lands somewhere that gives him 22-plus minutes as a starting-caliber perimeter defender, which would restore roughly 1.5 threes and a steal β€” a deep-league specialist line, not a draftable one.
