Clint Capela

Clint Capela remains an elite rebound-and-block producer per minute, but he is the third center in a healthy Houston rotation and therefore an injury-away specialist.

Nine-cat: not rosterable at the median; immediate rebounds/blocks streamer with an injury opening. Reference points: 4.3 FP/G, grade D. Dynasty: 1.5/10.

Read the 4.0 MPG as an average across DNPs, not a role. Coaches play a center twelve-plus minutes or scratch him; nobody logs four. The number is the mean of a bimodal distribution and describes no actual night. Capela logged 926 minutes across 75 games last season and the flat rate here obscures what he actually is: roughly 12-15 minutes in something like 45 appearances, with frequent scratches behind Şengün and a healthy Adams. The D grade follows from the averaging, not from a judgment that he is finished. The relevant risk runs the other way — Houston sits at 13 standard contracts and local reporting has floated Nick Richards and Jonas Valanciunas for backup-center minutes. A veteran center signing would zero this line out entirely.

Role and evidence

Capela played 75 games but only 12.3 minutes per appearance, averaging 3.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 0.7 assists, and 0.84 blocks on .520 shooting (Rockets game notes). He also received six DNP-CDs. His per-36 rates of roughly 13 rebounds and more than two blocks show why he matters when the depth chart opens.

Şengün is the offensive hub, while Adams' screening and double-big chemistry may put Capela third when all three are available. The four-minute median is a role judgment, not a claim that his center skills disappeared.

Pre-NBA: Élan Chalon (France, LNB Pro A), 2012-14; in 2013-14 he averaged 9.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks over 30 league games and was named Pro A Best Young Player and Most Improved. Draft: 2014, Round 1, Pick 25, Houston Rockets.

Durability: Mostly durable for a big — eight seasons of 63-plus games. The exceptions: the 12-game rookie year (development), 39 GP in 2019-20 (heel injury that lingered through the trade to Atlanta; he never suited up for the Hawks that season), and 55 GP in 2024-25 as his Atlanta role wound down. In 2025-26 he answered the bell 75 times; the minutes, not the body, were the constraint.

Trajectory: The record is a classic rim-runner arc: four elite seasons (2017-21) peaking at 16.6/12.7 and an NBA rebounding title (14.3 in 2020-21), then a gradual per-minute decline and, in 2025-26, a role collapse to third-center duty — 12.3 MPG, six DNP-CDs — behind Şengün and Adams. Career .613 FG on dunks and lobs against .546 FT is the familiar punt-FT trade. In 2026-27 he competes only for backup-center minutes in Houston; he becomes fantasy-relevant solely as an injury-activated streamer — a confirmed Şengün or Adams absence that hands him 15-18 minutes, where his per-36 rebound/block rates still play.
