Bogdan Bogdanović

Bogdan Bogdanović gives Houston badly needed shooting and secondary creation, but the 34-year-old enters a guard logjam after a hamstring-plagued 23-game season.

Nine-cat: outside standard-league range. Reference points: 5.8 FP/G, grade D. Dynasty: 1.5/10.

Read the 7.0 MPG as an average across DNPs, not a role. It is the mean of a bimodal distribution and describes no actual night. Houston signed him to a one-year veteran-minimum deal as the bench-scoring answer after salary-dumping Finney-Smith, and GM Rafael Stone framed the Smart and Bogdanović additions as targeting ball-handling, passing and decision-making (Hoops Rumors). A player signed for that is not a seven-minute player. The realistic shape is roughly 14-18 minutes on the nights he is in the rotation across something like 50 appearances, with DNP-CDs otherwise once the guard logjam sorts itself. The D grade is an artifact of averaging across those DNPs: he is not rosterable in standard formats at the median, but he is a live streaming target on any night a guard ahead of him sits, and the streaming line is a two-to-three-three-pointer game, not a 2.9-point game.

Role and evidence

Houston signed Bogdanović to a one-year deal on July 8. He played only 23 games for the Clippers after a hamstring injury, averaging 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.4 threes in 19.7 minutes while shooting .388 from the field and .347 from three (Basketball Reference).

The skill fit is better than the minute fit. VanVleet, Sheppard, Thompson, and Smart can all handle the ball; Durant and Şengün initiate half-court offense. Bogdanović needs his shooting to separate him, but this baseline assumes Udoka uses him selectively rather than guaranteeing a 20-minute role.

Durability: Has never reached 80 games; only two seasons above 70. The Atlanta dips were knee-driven — a right knee avulsion fracture cut 2020-21 to 44 games and offseason knee surgery delayed his 2022-23 start (54 games) — and 2025-26 collapsed to 23 games on the hamstring. At 34 the availability risk is now the defining feature of his profile.

Trajectory: The record is eight seasons of near-identical production — roughly 14 points, 3 assists, 2.5-3 threes on strong FT% whenever he plays 27+ minutes — followed by a two-year fade in role and health. In 2026-27 he competes for the bench shooting-and-creation role in Houston's guard logjam, which is a minutes fight, not a skills fight. He becomes fantasy-relevant the moment injuries or rotation churn hand him 20+ minutes for a stretch: the 3PM/FT%/AST rate profile has never actually declined at a per-minute level, so a stable role would make him an instant streamer and a fringe standard-league add in points formats.
