Tyler Smith

Tyler Smith is a two-way stretch-forward development bet whose Dallas minutes are blocked by the league's deepest frontcourt logjam.

Career record

Pre-NBA: No college. A five-star 2023 recruit who signed with Overtime Elite in August 2021 instead, earning second-team All-OTE in his second year with the Cold Hearts at 15.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.3 blocks. Joined G League Ignite in June 2023 for his draft season and averaged 13.7 points and 5.1 rebounds across Showcase Cup and regular-season play, with seven 20-point games. Draft: 2024, second round, 33rd overall by Milwaukee.

The path to Dallas was not direct. Milwaukee waived him on October 20, 2025; he passed through the Osceola Magic in the G League and a Houston contract that produced no appearances before signing a two-way with Dallas on March 1, 2026.

Durability: 23 games as a rookie and 12 after the March signing, both governed by roster status rather than injury. No significant absences have been reported.

Trajectory: Two seasons, 35 games, and a body of NBA evidence too thin to read as anything but a development file. The 13.8 minutes over 12 late-season Dallas games is the largest sample he has and produced 4.7 points on .420 shooting, which is the whole question: the profile is a stretch four and the three-point stroke has not yet held up at NBA distance. He is a Texas Legends forward on a two-way, and the only realistic 2026-27 path runs through Dallas trading out of its frontcourt surplus and an injury on top of that.
