Nine-category and points: outside the top 210. Dynasty: top 190-240 in very deep leagues because real-life defense can preserve a role, but there is no bankable fantasy category yet.

- Median: defensive specialist at 14-17 minutes.
- Floor: shooting remains a liability and Allen/O'Neale/Anderson take the minutes; fewer than 12 minutes.

Career record
Pre-NBA: Five college seasons — four at Tulane (2020-21 through 2023-24, rising from 5.8 points as a freshman to 14.0 as a senior) and a fifth-year transfer season at Duke in 2024-25, where he took a smaller offensive role on a Final Four team: 8.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 39 games on .516 from the field and .413 from three. ACC All-Defensive Team in 2025; bronze medal with the U.S. at the 2021 World University Games. Draft: 2025, second round, 33rd pick, Charlotte.

Durability: Played all 82 games as a rookie, the only Hornet to do so. No injury history to speak of across five college seasons either.
Trajectory: One NBA season, and it was a real one — 22.5 minutes a night for a full 82 on a team that had trouble keeping anyone healthy, with 11 starts in a November stretch. The role is defensive: he guards the opposing team's best perimeter player and moves the ball, and he does neither in a way that generates fantasy counting stats. The .371 overall field goal mark is the problem, and it is not a small-sample fluke over 82 games; the .352 from three is survivable, the interior finishing is not. His Duke splits (.516/.413) suggest the shot is better than year one showed, but one NBA season is now the more relevant evidence. He matters in fantasy only if he wins the non-Coby White point-guard minutes outright and pushes past 25 minutes, or if Charlotte's wing depth thins by trade. Even the ceiling is roughly 7 points, 3 assists and a steal — deep-league only.

- Can James raise his three-point or steal rate enough to create a fantasy specialty?
- Does Charles Lee trust him, Anderson, or a future veteran with the non-White point-guard minutes?
