Snapshot
- Status: standard contract; waiver, buyout, or follow-up trade candidate.
- 2025-26: 37 GP, 16.8 MPG; .333 FG · .889 FT · 0.7 3PM · 3.3 PTS · 2.5 REB · 1.0 AST · 0.4 STL · 0.2 BLK · 0.6 TO.
- Acquisition: Houston sent him and three seconds to Charlotte for cash on July 6.
- Health context: recovered from 2025 ankle surgery but never regained his prior form; shot a career-low 27% from three.
2026-27 projection
This is destination-neutral because the current Charlotte expectation is zero games played for the team.
| GP | MPG | FG% | FT% | 3PM | PTS | REB | AST | STL | BLK | TO |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 | 17.0 | .390 | .750 | 1.0 | 4.7 | 2.9 | 1.2 | 0.5 | 0.2 | 0.7 |
His Charlotte allocation is zero. In categories, points, and dynasty he is outside the top 220 unless a thinner contender gives him 24-plus minutes.
Range
- Ceiling: lands in a 22-minute playoff rotation and rebounds toward career shooting; deep-league threes/rebounds only.
- Median: buyout role at 15-18 minutes.
- Floor: remains on Charlotte's books temporarily without playing, then exits the rotation entirely.

Durability: Broadly available through his Dallas prime — 81, 81, 71, 60 and 80 games in five of his first six seasons. The exceptions bracket the career. In 2017-18 left knee quadriceps tendinitis cost him 51 straight games; he returned on March 10, 2018 having last played November 12, 2017. Ankle surgery in June 2025, addressing an injury carried through 2024-25, pushed back his Houston debut and held him to 37 games in 2025-26.
Trajectory: For six seasons this was one of the league's more reliable three-and-D wings — a 39-40% shooter from deep across 2019-22 while defending across three or four positions. The 2025-26 collapse was total rather than gradual: minutes halved to 16.8, field-goal percentage fell to .333 and the three-point rate to .270, both career lows by a wide margin, in his age-32 season and first year off ankle surgery. Charlotte took him purely as the price of collecting three second-round picks, and local reporting says he is unlikely to play a game for them. He matters in fantasy only if he is bought out, lands somewhere needing wing defense, and the shot returns toward even his 2023-24 level — three conditions, none of them yet met.

Open questions
- Will Charlotte waive, buy out, or trade Finney-Smith before camp?
- If he changes teams, has the ankle recovered enough for his shooting to normalize?
