Role Where Apply
How to read the table
  • S an offer resets your career — three firms: Jane Street, Citadel Securities, HRT
  • A elite, top-of-market pay
  • B a real quant seat at a real quant firm
  • C small, regional, or a quant desk in a firm that is not a quant shop
  • QR researcher · QT trader · QD developer
  • 1× one application for the whole firm, all season
  • Pay is the whole internship by default, not a rate — firms post weekly, monthly, annualised and lump-sum figures and none of them compare by eye. ≈ means the number is derived: the posted figure × the internship length. Only 26 roles state a length; the rest assume ten weeks and carry a *. Open the row for the arithmetic and the firm's own wording, or switch the Pay column to as posted. Ink was in the job description, grey is candidate-reported.
  • Roles that have not opened yet are hidden. The + opening soon chip brings them back.
  • Search reaches inside the interview panels, which is the point of having them: cooldown returns Optiver alone, market making game finds the firms that run one.
  • Andrew mode sorts by fit against one résumé and puts QR above QT. ✓ is stored in this browser only; nothing leaves the page. The 42 firms in the 26 August application log arrive already ticked and greyed — that is firm-level, because the log records firms rather than which requisition went in, so a firm with five rows greys all five. That log was re-derived directly from application confirmation emails; the previous seed listed 35 and had missed seven. Group One Trading is not greyed, because that application was started and never submitted. Untick anything that is wrong; the seed runs once and will not undo you. Hide applied clears them out of the way entirely.
  • Twenty-one firms were removed in August 2026 — no undergraduate-eligible Summer 2027 req to apply to, or a "quant" seat that turned out to be portfolio analytics, dashboarding or fundamental equity research. PhD- and Master's-only reqs are out by rule.
  • The board widened on 20 August 2026. Non-US roles, sell-side bank quant, quant risk, data science and quant-adjacent seats — economic consulting, national labs, actuarial, cat modelling — were all excluded by rule before that date and are in scope now. Every requisition added was fetched before it was written down, and a second pass re-fetched each URL and killed 85 rows: dead links, PhD-only reqs, and above all plain software engineering wearing a quant label, which was the single most common failure.
  • A coverage sweep on 26 August 2026 added 24 firms and two roles, segmented across prop, systematic funds, bank quant, energy, exchanges, non-US, regulators and all twelve Federal Reserve districts. The find of the sweep was the two GSEs — Fannie Mae posted a Quantitative Research Track intern that morning, Freddie Mac's whole slate went up two days earlier with a stated 16 October cutoff, and both name Spring 2028 graduation outright. DV Trading turned out to have three US intern reqs, not one, including a $45.00/hr commodities seat. Everything rejected is named in assets/data.js with its reason, including nine firms that are dead, dormant or acquired and one search result that is an outright scam site.
QR or QT — mostly not a decision
  • It is a forced choice at one firm out of 65. Virtu, which is one-application-only and posts a QR req titled "(Undergrad)". At HRT and Optiver a single requisition explicitly covers both. Everywhere else, filing both costs a form. Lead QR in how the résumé is written and where the prep goes; run QT in parallel; stop treating it as a strategy.
  • "You are not competing with PhDs for QR" is only half true, and an earlier version of this page asserted it flatly. Separate BS/MS-eligible QR requisitions do exist at Citadel Securities, Citadel, IMC, D. E. Shaw, DRW, Jump, Virtu, Akuna, AQR, Arrowstreet, Aquatic and Voloridge. They do not at Two Sigma, Jane Street or HRT, where one all-levels req puts undergraduates directly against PhDs — and at SIG and Five Rings the QR seat is PhD-only, so the undergraduate door there is the trading req.
  • QT has no degree gate, so the funnel is the largest in the market and the résumé stops mattering — but note the failure mode this creates. Applying to ten QT desks is not ten independent draws: the post-assessment rounds are the same games and the same person every time.
  • The timed arithmetic screen is the real gate, and it is the one part of this that is purely trainable. Be sceptical of the thresholds people circulate for the 80-in-8 (55, 56, 65 all get quoted) — none is employer-confirmed and Optiver publishes no figure. Drill it because it is a hard gate, not because someone attached a number to it.
  • Optiver is the one firm to hold back. One campus role at a time plus an eight-month global cooldown after a failed assessment — the only cooldown on the board. A cold attempt is genuinely expensive. Everywhere else, apply now: review is rolling and the desirable offices fill first.
Applying
  • Almost every prop shop reviews rolling. Early August beats late September with the same résumé. Banks are the exception — filter to Has a deadline and sort by deadline before doing anything else.
  • The online assessments are the real filter, not the résumé. Most are timed mental arithmetic and probability. Sequence the firms with a re-application cooldown last.
  • Apply on the firm's own board. Lensa, Jobright, ZipRecruiter reposts and BeBee re-host real reqs with stale windows and dead links, and they outrank the firms themselves in search. And nothing selling a "funded account" evaluation — FTMO, Apex, TopStep — is an employer; the CFTC sued MyForexFunds over that model in 2023.
